cspan, discussion of 2004 democratic primary
is anyone watching this discussion on cspan right now ? they have representatives from clark, dean, gephardt, kerry, and lieberman campaigns for discussion. it's pretty interesting to listen to. it's kind of like that cnn inside the dean campaign thing, but more focused on analysis of what happened. all of the guys seem pretty much in agreement on things.

1. I think I might have just heard some of it on c-span radio.
I thought the remark about Bayh setting the record for the most ticket-splitting votes in IN in the 1980 race was interesting. Becuase I was listening on the radio, I wasn't sure which person made that comment. Do you know? Was the person who said that from the Kerry campaign? I have a sneaking suspicion the Kerry campaign might be leaning toward Bayh for VP.

2. He wasn't talking about Evan Bayh.
He was talking about his father Birch Bayh in 1980, setting a record for most split ticket votes and still losing to Dan Quayle because Reagan won by such a large margin. I'm not sure who was speaking, but I think it was either the Gephardt guy or the Lieberman guy (I saw it several hours ago).

I don't know who Kerry's going to pick for VP, but I'm sure there are at least a dozen people ahead of Evan Bayh on the list.

4. it was clark's guy
it was the clark guy who said it.he doesn't look that old so he must have been really young then. by working he probably meant volunteering rather than paid work.

3. ron klain
he was on the show speaking as the clark campaign representative. although he did move on to kerry's side after clark dropped out. his reference to bayh was not to the current senator bayh, but to evan bayh's father who was also senator. and he worked on that campaign so i wouldn't make too much of bayh's chances of vp based on that alone.

i wonder why they didn't have an edwards person on the show. i wish they did. i would have liked to hear their views.

i thought it was interesting and good to see how much in agreement all the guys were. and there are guys who worked closely in the campaigns, yet they didn't have any bitterness or anger but seemed very friendly. i liked how the kerry guy kept asking the dean guy for that famous "list".

5. Thanks for the clarification about Bayh.
Unfortunately, I only caught the tail end of the show. But from what I did hear, I was very impressed with how united they all were and how quickly they managed to get over any hard feelings they might have had from a hard fought campaign.

I think the one group of Americans George Bush has succeeded in uniting is the Democrats.

7. I just switched it on and it's news commentary about negative ads.
Probably because of the Bush push for the negative.

The consensus is that it will just cement people in their views that they already hold. interesting - so it won't swing anyone one way or the other. I thing the negative campaigning will turn some people off, especially so early on if it continues for 8 months.

I think it shows desperation on Bush that he has to resort to negative campaigning so early on. We will see.

That one of him with exploiting the 911 tragedy while he is standing next to Laura Bush and smirking makes me ill. :puke:
