Kerry *may* announce VP in May (Time magazine)
Kerry may soon get help in defending his candidacy. It is a measure of the acceleration of the race that his campaign is debating whether to move up his announcement of a running mate to as early as May, rather than wait until the July convention, as is customary. With Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and Laura Bush maintaining robust campaign schedules, Kerry could use a sidekick. An extra hand would also help with fund raising.

The Kerry forces, which are badly outfinanced, are turning more attention to money. The campaign has increased the size of its fund-raising operation tenfold, adding 150 new workers and sending the candidate on a 20-city cash-raising tour. Kerry hopes to tap into Howard Dean's high-tech machine—which is why Kerry's former Democratic rival got such a warm welcome when he visited Kerry headquarters last week for a formal kiss-and-make-up session.

Make of that what you will. Give money to Kerry, too.

Who is the smart money on?

2. I wish I knew...
Who the "smart money" is. :)

Here on DU, it's the guy you backed who didn't win. (Clark, Edwards etc.)

And the press is almost always wrong about this.

I would guess I'll be surprised, just like I always am.

They had a great record, but they've failed a lot recently... so, take it for what it's worth :P

17. If he chooses Edwards as VP
we lose in November. We MUST have a VP with Foreign Policy experience. Edwards has NONE. Interesting that the man with the MOST Foreign Policy experience isn't even on the list.

20. I don't see that; the Veep isn't the one who has most to say about...
foreign policy.

Put Clark in the Powell slot (and float rumors early that that's the plan) and I think you'll see a lot of enthusiasm.

Meanwhile, though, Edwards has a lot of support in the South, and he's a familiar (and pretty) face, which is traditionally what the veep slot is for.

21. In the Powell slot?
If by that you mean Sec. of State, the position has already been promised to Holbrooke.

Edwards may get the spot but not because of the votes he can bring to the ticket. The current issues that will be used against Kerry will be: guns, taxes and security...with a few cultural issues thrown in. Edwards does nothing to buttress Kerry's positions including and especially Kerry's supposed strength of his military experience. Edwards certainly cannot argue with the administration's current rush to war because Edwards agrees with the position.

Edwards is a fine person with plenty of money supporting his run, that may get him on the ticket, but it does nothing for the electorial map. Hopefully Kerry's team will leave emotional responses outside of the door and play to win.

That said, the Democrats have never failed to fail me.

24. No, we need a candidate who can talk domestic job creation
And we need a candidate who is polished, not learning as he speaks.

Difference in opinion.

4. Well..
According to this piece, for money reasons they may brake with that common wisdom. Kerry needs someone who will help him bring in the bucks, or this is going to be a tough run against Bush and his millions.

7. Well I can see that reasoning
I'll believe it when I see it though. That's a long time to go before November elections.

5. Really I think Clark
makes the most sense. Cokespoon only has his "War President" creditials to run on. Two war heroes could deflect that lie. Also southern, outsider, and he looks cool and talks smart.

12. Clark would be my pick for VP
and he certainly would be an excellent choice. He's got a large grass-roots following.

6. Time Magazine
I clicked on the link and I have this Levitra banner ad flashing at me, before the story even loads, talking all about Erectile Dysfunction.

Then the story appears and I see the headline:

"Can Kerry Keep it Up?"

9. Not a popup, but a banner ad
With a picture of a confident-looking Mike Ditka.

Different ads probably appear on different people's browsers. That's what all those cookies are for, to help them market their wares to targeted audiences. Apparently, I am a Levitra target.

14. I'm a woman
Well, on second thought, I guess that could make me a target. Oh this would just get worse the more I talked...

(I think the ad and the title of the article are way too cute to be coincidence, the bastards)

10. Kerry raised 10 million in 10 days
that should cover him for a little while

John Kerry Raises $10 Million in 10 Days Online

Democrats More United Than Ever to Beat Bush

In the 10 days since the polls closed on Super Tuesday, John Kerry has raised $10 million on his website, www.johnkerry.com , alone. This is yet another sign that Democrats are more united than ever to defeat George Bush in November.

The internet is playing an important role in John Kerry’s campaign. 33,000 people have signed up at www.johnkerry.com to do grassroots work, traveling to states to volunteer their time in the field for primaries and caucuses, and hosting Meet Ups in cities in all fifty states around the country. The campaign has launched two Internet ads from www.johnkerry.com by email to supporters and friends of supporters.
“These impressive numbers show how hungry people are for change in America,” said Kerry campaign spokesman Chad Clanton. “They understand that George Bush is offering nothing but more of the same failed policies, and they’re logging onto our website to help make that change happen.”

The Kerry campaign has also launched a new rapid-response portion of the website to help supporters beat back the misleading attacks. The “D-Bunker” website (http://blog.johnkerry.com/dbunker/ ), which is linked to www.johnkerry.com , will help Kerry supporters debunk lies and distortions both on and off-line.

With his decisive victories and positive message for a better America, John Kerry is uniting millions of people across the country committed to bringing change to America. The Democratic Party has never been more unified, and John Kerry is ready to lead the millions of hardworking Americans who want change in America to victory in November.

18. I hope he does announce by May if it's Wes Clark.
Then Wes can travel the country telling the people how the chimp has failed in leading this country. He can explain everything they have done wrong prior to and since 911. By November, it will be clear that the idiot-in-chief has failed in protecting us in this "war on terror." Let Wes loose on 'em.....he'll open their eyes.

19. If fundraisng and surregate campaigning are the idea
in anouncing early, Edwards would be his best choice. Edwards has star power and could pull in a lot of money at events. Edwards is also the best campaigner in the party today. The sooner he brings him on board the better.
