Kerry calls for an end to poll sniping
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2004/03/15/wkerr15.xml&sSheet=/portal/2004/03/15/ixportal.html&secureRefresh=true&_requestid=57413

Senator John Kerry formally secured the Democratic presidential nomination yesterday and kept up the pressure on President George W Bush by calling for an end to the "sniping" that is already colouring the race for the White House.

Mr Kerry, speaking in Quincy, Illinois, called for monthly debates with Mr Bush to elevate the tone of the campaign, which is shaping up as one of the most acrimonious in memory.

His attempt to claim the moral high ground follows months in which he has attacked the White House. Only last week he referred to his opponents as a "crooked and lying group".

1. I had to read that article about securing the Democratic nomination.
I thought something had been decided over the weekend that I missed!

not that I disput Kerry as the nominee. Now I realize this article was written after Super Tuesday in Briton after Edwards dropped out.

2. It's from today's paper
And here's the bit about the delgate situation.

At the weekend Mr Kerry acquired enough party delegates to confirm that he will be the Democratic challenger in November. The nominee needs a simple majority of the 4,322 delegates at the Boston convention in July.

He picked up the last 162 needed thanks to the support of "super delegates" who vote at the convention because of their prominence in the party. He also had a primary victory in Kansas.
