12. Buchanan continuing the threw the "medals" over the fence lie along with
the smear of Kerry "testifying" about Vietnam war crimes. The Rethugs are running scared and once again showing their true colors--they are willing to do and say anything to win. How do they live with their sorry selves?

he is a danger to the world.

I can't believe he said that. Of everything, the fact that the media whores reports BushCo as the dreaded foe of terrorists...it is enough to make one lose their mind.

I hope Kerry demolishes this insane inverted nightmare. That's why I want Clark. He can destroy a fool like Friedman and my gawd does Friedman need to be destroyed.

Edited on Mon Mar-15-04 08:04 PM by bigtree
Watching that, boy! Nixon couldn't have engineered a better slam than that if he tried. He would be looking at that report rubbing his hands and jumping aroung with glee. Thanks to tweety Nixon got one more shot at Kerry.

Take heart though. This kind of tripe will galvanize the party like Kerry could never do on his own. If folks believe that Nixon won the Vietnam war as the Buchannan said they should vote for Bush. If folks believe that Americans acted honorably in the killing of millions of Vietnamese then they should vote for Bush.

A Must Read: 'Nixon’s nuclear ploy' By William Burr & Jeffrey Kimball
http://www.bullatomsci.org/issues/2003/jf03/jf03burr.html

"Richard Nixon thought a secret, worldwide nuclear alert would remain unknown to the American public, and he was right. But his strategy—to threaten the Soviets into helping bring an end to the Vietnam war—was unsuccessful. They may not even have noticed.

In 1969 President Richard Nixon ordered a worldwide nuclear alert—one of the largest secret military operations in U.S. history. Only Nixon, his special adviser for national security affairs Henry Kissinger, Kissinger’s National Security Council aide Col. Alexander Haig, and White House chief of staff H. R. “Bob” Haldeman, knew that the underlying purpose of the alert, known as the “Joint Chiefs of Staff Readiness Test,” was to convince the Soviets that helping to end the war in Vietnam was in their best interests.

The alert began on October 13, 1969, when U.S. tactical and strategic air forces in the United States, Europe, and East Asia began a stand-down of training flights to raise operational readiness; Strategic Air Command (SAC) increased the numbers of bombers and tankers on ground alert; and the readiness posture of selected overseas units was heightened. On October 25, SAC took the additional step of increasing the readiness of nuclear bombers, and two days later SAC B-52s undertook a nuclear-armed “Show of Force” alert over Alaska, code-named “Giant Lance.” Three days later, U.S. intelligence detected Soviet awareness of the heightened nuclear alert and Defense Secretary Melvin Laird ordered commanders to terminate the test at the end of the month.

Nixon wrote in his post-war memoirs that he emerged from a July 7 meeting with Kissinger on the presidential yacht Sequoia intending to “‘go for broke’ in the sense that I would attempt to end the war one way or the other—either by negotiated agreement or by an increased use of force.” He could either escalate the war to force a favorable negotiated agreement or he could accelerate the withdrawal and do what was necessary to protect American forces while they were leaving. In either case, he said, “We’ll bomb the bastards.”

In July and into August, Nixon was disappointed by the lack of success on the diplomatic front. With public patience waning, he decided to appease everyone with simultaneous Vietnamization and military escalation."

If folks want to prevent the perpetuation of this Nixonian regime they should vote for Kerry.

20. I thought it was a great story.
I don't see this story as a negative at all. What Kerry did was a good thing, and it is somethinmg we need to be proud of. I love the hippies and yippies. I also have great respect for the veterans who came home and joined forces with them, and people like RFK and MLK. Remember that men like Tip O'Neill changed his mind on Vietnam because of men like Kerry. And remember that the Nixon creeps and the Iran-Contra crooks have morphed into the bush administration.
There is going to be a huge, dirty, under-handed effort to discredit John Kerry and to separate the democratic party from an authentic war hero. Don't let that happen. Look at the weapon we have: EVERY TIME THEY SMEAR KERRY, WE SAY "THAT'S JUST WHAT NIXON DID!!!" America ain't going for Nixon at a time when the public is recognizing bush as a liar.

21. I am proud of what he did
its just that this can be a divisive subject is all. One of the reasons I was so strongly for Clark was I saw him as more of a uniter. But I really hope that people have accepted Vietnam was wrong and will see that Kerry did the right thing.

Showed and played clips of Nixon and his aides talking about Kerry and then getting John O'Neill to go against Kerry on a talk show. NBC showed clips of Kerry debating O'Neill on the show.

I have to say that John Kerry came out of this looking REAL good.

23. Nixon feared Kerry like no other protester.
From Boston (BFEE) Globe Kerry series:

EXCERPT...

Colson, in a secret memo, revealed he had a mission to target Kerry: "Destroy the young demagogue before he becomes another Ralph Nader."

The effort by Nixon and his aides to undermine Kerry went much deeper than even Kerry realized. Yet it is this chapter in his life, as much as any other, that helped turn Kerry into a national political figure. By targeting Kerry, the Nixon White House boosted his stature in ways that still are having an impact.

But at the same time, many of the issues that Nixon and his aides raised more than 30 years ago about Kerry still remain. Echoes of Colson's words can still be heard in Washington: "He's politically ambitious and just looking for an issue, a phony."

Yet even Nixon described Kerry as an articulate and impressive spokesman. The Nixon White House began an investigation of Kerry. Who was he, the Nixonites wanted to know. What was his real motivation? And how could they stop him?

The Kennedy Assassination:
The Nixon-Bush Connection

by Paul Kangas

Note: All references to "George Bush" refer to George Herbert Walker Bush, Father of George "Dubya" Bush who was "elected" pResident by a 5 to 4 vote of the Supreme Court.

A newly discovered FBI document reveals that George Bush was directly involved in the 1963 murder of President John Kennedy. The document places Bush working with the now-famous CIA agent, Felix Rodriguez, recruiting right-wing Cuban exiles for the invasion of Cuba. It was Bush's CIA job to organize the Cuban community in Miami for the invasion. The Cubans were trained as marksmen by the CIA. Bush at that time lived in Texas. Hopping from Houston to Miami weekly, Bush spent 1960 and '61 recruiting Cubans in Miami for the invasion. That is how he met Felix Rodriguez.

SNIP...

On the Watergate tapes, June 23, 1972, referred to in the media as the "smoking gun" conversation, Nixon and his Chief of Staff, H.R. Haldeman, discussed how to stop the FBI investigation into the CIA Watergate burglary. They were worried that the investigation would expose their conection to "the Bay of Pigs thing." Haldeman, in his book The Ends of Power, reveals that Nixon always used code words when talking about the 1963 murder of JFK. Haldeman said Nixon would always refer to the assassination as "the Bay of Pigs."

On that transcript we find Nixon discussing the role of George Bush's partner, Robert Mosbacher, as one of the Texas fundraisers for Nixon. On the tapes Nixon keeps refering to the "Cubans" and the "Texans." The "Texans" were Bush, Mosbacher and Baker. This is another direct link between Bush and evidence linking Nixon and Bush to the Kennedy assassination.

In the same discussion Nixon links "the Cubans," "the Texans," "Helms," "Hunt," "Bernard Barker," Robert "Mosbacher" and "the Bay of Pigs." Over and over on the Watergate tapes, these names come up around the discussion of the photos from Dallas that Nixon was trying to obtain when he ordered the CIA to burglarize the Watergate. (Source: Three Men and a Barge", Teresa Riordan, Common Cause magazine, March/April 1990, and San Francisco Chronicle, May 7,1977, interview with Frank Sturgis in which he stated that "the reason we burglarized the Watergate was because Nixon was interested in stopping news leaking related to the photos of our role in the assassination of President John Kennedy.")

30. Hi, LC!
You and Santayana can say that again!

George W. Nixon

WASHINGTON, July 24, 2003

President Bush is often compared to Ronald Reagan and George Bush the Elder. In his latest Against the Grain commentary, CBSNews.com's Dick Meyer says think Nixon.

Fall guys, intimidation and leaked personal attacks on enemies are back in at the 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. How Nixonian. How disappointing.

Political enemy number one is former Ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV.

Wilson wrote an op-ed piece in "The New York Times" on July 6 that infuriated the White House. Wilson reported that in 2002, at the CIA's request, he had investigated reports that Iraq was trying to buy uranium from Niger and that he had found the reports baseless. From that firsthand experience, Wilson wrote about the case for war in Iraq, "that some of the intelligence related to Iraq's nuclear weapons program was twisted to exaggerate the Iraqi threat."

Wilson’s piece ignited a full-blown frenzy and led to an embarrassing White House admission that it shouldn't have included the discredited claim about "yellowcake" from Niger in his State of the Union address. The Texans didn't 'ppreciate that.

31. Well the stories planted against Kerry back then are still used today.
Especially those that were ramped up back in the 80s by the Bush machine that were meant to bring him down during his IranContra investigations.

The Bush machine hasn'y stopped putting out stories about Kerry SINCE the Nixon White House.

You may not care, but too many younger Democrats aren't even aware of where most of the planted stories originated.
