Why can't we find someone to run in GA?
Edited on Mon Mar-15-04 11:06 PM by TomSeaver
I don't get it? Are we just going to give that seat up without a Fight? Is there not one strong Democrat in GA? Can Sam Nunn run AGAIN?
What about their Lieutenant Governor there?

5. GA is dominated by BBV machines. I doubt if a Dem can win there.
No wonder nobody wants to run. Get paper trail e-voting machines and Dems might have a shot.

8. I so much hope you're right. I have so many fears about those
damned bbv machines though. How are we going to deal with them?

11. If they try and get funny
with those things you know they are going to get caught eventually. Especially with all the stories about it, people are going to pay more attention to security. At least I think so.

13. We must be totally vigilent. I would also advise absentee ballots,
as long as those aren't entered into a bbv machine by a poll worker, then rendered as non-documents, in terms of a recount. Some are handled this way I've heard.

10. I don't know what Zells plans are

as far as endorsing anybody. Mary Squires is considered a pretty popular candidate at least by some of the local dem party folks. Gwinnet County is a fairly affluent/above average area that she currently represents.

edit: I don't know to much more right now.

12. Well, we know that Zell has endorsed Bush for reelection
so it would not surprised me if Zell would support the GOP candidate for Senate.

9. Kos has been keeping up with this.
Mystery Georgia senate candidate

This post on the DSCC blog stirred up some chatter from Georgia insiders.

We are hearing some good news in GA so stay tuned on that front. A great candidate could emerge soon. So stay tuned... But instead of talking about us I want to talk about them.
So who might this mystery candidate be?

While I've heard several possibilities, one name has come up repeatedly: Stan Kasten. Kasten had the distinction of being the only executive in sports to run three teams at once -- the Atlanta Hawks, Atlanta Thrashers and Atlanta Braves. He's been in the public eye since 1979, when he became the youngest General Manager of an NBA franchise ever (he was 27). His name ID is killer.

Kasten's potential candidacy is only a rumor, and even the DSCC admits nothing is finalized. But a Kasten candidacy would offer a glimmer of hope for a seat destined to turn Red in November. (Not that it didn't unofficially turn red a year ago...)

14. Cool, it would
seem even a wingnut would be an improvement over miller. At least you'd know what to expect if they have an (r) next to their name, but keeping the seat with a REAL Democrat would be a tremendous improvement.
