1. We are CST, and the polls are open from 6 AM until 7 PM.
The weather is sorta crappy, but we have some hotly-contested races, so turnout should be above-average. :)

2. Illinois polls
I'm not sure if any other states are voting today.

Illinois has been open for hours. They're in the Central time zone, and the polls were open when I turned on the news this morning at about 6am CST. The polls close at 7pm Central time.

3. We are the only ones today! My husband and I got to the polls early
and cast our votes. We went to see DK yesterday in Springfield and Decatur (we went with my parents). We decided to vote for Dennis in the hopes of giving him a platform at the convention. He was terrific! In Decatur it was a one hour Q & A with Dennis and we were sitting in the 2nd row on the end and that is where he stood the entire time giving his speech and answering questions. I spent an entire hour less then a foot away from Dennis! It was so freaking exciting I cannot even begin to tell you!

And even MORE glad that you decided to vote DK. :yourock:

Barack Obama has spent a lifetime fighting effectively to empower working families and the poor - as community organizer, civil rights attorney and a leader in the Illinois Senate. He has brought new ideas and approaches in pursuit of traditional Democratic ideals to make a real difference for people -- from better schools to affordable health care to criminal justice reform.

Obama graduated from Columbia University with a degree in political science and a specialty in international relations. He worked as a community organizer in some of Chicago's toughest neighborhoods, helping church groups create job-training programs, reform area schools, and improve city services.

He went on to Harvard Law School, where he graduated magna cum laude and served as the first African-American president of the Harvard Law Review. After law school, Obama organized one of the largest voter registration drives in Chicago history to help Bill Clinton's election, and worked as a civil rights lawyer on cutting edge voting rights and employment discrimination cases in federal and state courts

12. My circle of friends and family are voting for Obama today.
That is who I voted for!

When I went to my polling place, there were more democrats present. My next door neighbor is the one who runs the polling place so I will call her at the end of the day and ask her about voter turnout. I will be interested to see what she has to say!

11. My parents were going to vote for Kerry today
but they went to see DK in Decatur yesterday and my step dad is a life long union member and Dennis was speaking to him when he was talking about all of the factory closings, NAFTA, the WTO. Both of my parents are voting DK today also. Dennis stated yesterday that we do have our nominee and the only reasons he is still looking for votes is in the hopes of having a platform at the convention. He wants to ensure that the democrats take the right path and a vote for him is a vote for his voice to be heard. We all were happy to give him that chance. My parents were so impressed by him and felt like he was speaking to their issues and concerns and absolutely love his ideas!

It was just the most fabulous event I have attended in awhile!

4. The experts are expecting 30-35% turnout...
That may be true for Republicans, but I'm hoping for much higher among Dems. A low turnout helps Hynes, a high turnout helps Obama (go Barak!)...

10. I voted!
At about 8:30 am there were a whole bunch more Republican ballots than Democratic ballots as far as the stacks went. Considering the accuvote count showed under 40, this is pretty telling as far as their preparations. I'm in DuPage County...HEAVILY Republican and I live (literally) just down the road from Hastert's homebase. :puke:

Anyway...I digress. The most disappointing thing is the large number of No Candidates in several of the races (including judicial appointments and reps.) I considered writing in my name, but decided I don't have the Republican immunity for youthful indiscretions. ;-)
