of the real objective of Atwater/Rove-style negative
campaigning: to depress turnout.

The theory is that ordinary voters will be so disgusted by the
tone of the campaign that the only people still interested
enough to vote on Election Day will be those who feel a sense
of victory during the campaign.

Don't forget to vote, and urge everyone around you to vote
too.  To those who say, "Each is as bad as the
