Survey: More Companies to Hire in 2Q
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=509&ncid=509&e=37&u=/ap/20040316/ap_on_bi_ge/jobs_outlook

MILWAUKEE - People looking for work this spring could find the strongest U.S. job market in more than three years, even as companies remain reluctant to hire, a new survey shows.

Roughly one in four employers plan to add workers in the second quarter of the year to keep pace with increased demand for their products or services, according to a survey of 16,000 businesses by Manpower Inc., set for release Tuesday.

"Someone looking for a job no doubt will have an easier time now than in recent memory, than in the past two or three years," said Jeffrey Joerres, Manpower's chief executive officer and chairman. "It's still going to be difficult in that companies are going to begin this process very cautiously."

Substantial job growth will come if companies fulfill their hiring projections for the quarter, he said.

The survey found 28 percent of companies expect to hire more people in the second quarter, while 6 percent intend to cut jobs. The rest anticipate no change or are uncertain about hiring prospects from April to May.

The second-quarter results, when seasonally adjusted, are the strongest since the first quarter of 2001, soon after the economy officially entered a recession, according to Manpower, a Glendale, Wis.-based staffing company.

...soon after the economy officially entered a recession"

IOW, compared to a depression, we're doing GREAT!

4. I smell a rat
and it's found in the first sentence: "...could find the strongest US job market in more than three years, even as companies remain reluctant to hire..."

How do we get to a strong job market, while companies are reluctant to hire? This is more two-faced, deceptive double-talk from the BeelzeBush administration. As always, they parse words, twist meanings around in sentences, and in general try to bamboozle us.

I'll believe it when I see it.

5. Bet the hiring company doesn't pay the commission, either.
You have to pay for it out of your pocket for 3 months.

Wanna bet?

Anyone wanna bet?

No one wants to bet?

Oh, and you're probably "contract labor," which means self-employed...paying 13.5 % of your income to SS & Medicare BEFORE you even pay income tax.

Will SOMEONE tell me why this is such "good news?"

6. That's still anemic job creation
Whenever you see a "strong" job stat, it's good to go to news.google.com and do a search on "John Challenger", an exec at an outplacement firm who has the real low-down on the job situation.

The real low-down is awful. Considering the people who have dropped out of the workforce, the people who have been forced onto disability who previously were able workers, and other factors, the "real" unemployment rate is actually around 10%-12%.

7. Per the Globe reporter Kerry "More" = "Foreign" comment
I'm sure the title is supposed to be;

"Survey: Foreign Companies to Hire in 2Q" Subtitled - "And NOT in America either"

8. "Prosperity is just around the corner!" -- Herbert Hoover (and now Bu$h).
Edited on Tue Mar-16-04 06:26 PM by Vitruvius
Can't the chimp and his handlers do any better than copycatting Herbert Hoover's lame excuses?

Rethugnicans all talk alike, think alike, look alike... And they all wreck the economy alike...
