America can't recruit the soldiers they need to defend our country, Al Queda has no problem. The Bush policies are the best thing that ever happened to terrorist recruitment. We need to bring back a foreign policy that will destroy the terrorist movement!

1. that would be a great day
he should hold that one til a national debate. I would love to see Bush try to respond to that. It would make the MTP 'AWOL' interview look like a walk in the park.

I think you should contact his campaign HQ and suggest it. I like your way of thinking :)

3. Do you remember the Osama poster
from Tom Paine right before the invasion? It had Osama dressed up as Uncle Sam saying: I want you to Invade Iraq!

5. for thinking people
it would not be a slap. It is a question of numbers. We currently have troops in Afghanistan and Iraq, and Haitti. They are overextended by the Pentagon's own admission. On the other hand, Bush's* failed foreign policy does make it easy for al Qaida to recruit; each Muslim killed by US troops leaves behind family and friends who (rightly or wrongly) are angered at the death, and the imperialsitic nature of US troops invading their homeland.

A suitable foriegn policy would be using law enforcement, as opposed to military menas - as you point out terrorists have no real country to attack; attacking (or defending) countries is a job for militaries. Hunting criminals and fugitives from justice is a law enforcement job.

if you "know" it, you can provide a link showing me that the military used to be at a strength to fight 2.5 sustained(?) wars; and the number by which Clinton trimmed it.

What exactly is "proper ready strength"? I guess the definition would depend if you plan to wage aggressive wars, or simply defend your nation.

While we're discussing military matters, what is your opinion of stop-loss? My opinion is that it should be illegal, as it amounts to involuntary servitude. Recruits signed up for a specific lenght of time; it is wrong for the government to refues to discharge them at the end of that time.

Is Kerry strong enough. Undoubtedly. As a nation there are many who desire a strong, aggressive military, and would willingly support efforts to expand its size and scope. (on edit:) It doesn't seem as though it would take much strength of will to expand the military; simply voice the desire, and the Military-Industrial Complex will give you full backing.

While I can't speak for Kerry, I would strongly suspect he has a long enough memory to recall privations, lies, etc. related to Vietnam, and as a C-in-C would be loathe to short-change the troops he would be commanding.

also on edit: I do know agressive should have two esses.

8. A student of history would know that
Edited on Thu Mar-18-04 01:01 AM by pmn
the reductions that took place during Clinton's terms were scheduled under Bush the smarter. Clinton only oversaw the already planned reductions.

A really astute student of history would know that after Bush the dumber took over, his SecDef Rumsfeld pushed for even further reductions in the standing army. The cancellation of that big assed artillery piece was just the first of Rummy's planned reductions. We've just seen the canning of that helicopter program.

Don't let any POS repuke tell you that Dems don't support the military. All of the reductions since the end of WWII have been pushed through the Congress by Repukes.

EVERY ONE OF THEM!!!
