It seems to me that the general strategies for victory can be broken down into two paths. Which do you think will win?
1: Strong Democrat -- articulating strong Democratic values, bringing in new voters, and with a combination of new voters, Democrats, and disaffected independents all subscribing to a new vision for America, claim the White House.
2: Poll-driven Democrat -- articulate variations of the Bush agenda with a "Democratic" spin, distance yourself from "controversial" Democratic issues like reproductive freedom and non-discrimination, go conservative on several issues to appeal to Republican voters, ignore new voters and keep them disspirited and out of the process, appeal to conservative independents, hope that moderate and liberal independents will come along for the ride, demand that Democrats support you to "get rid of Bush," squeak into the White House.
I'm definitely with #1.
