that he is rerunning it now on hairball. That's fine I guess, but I wonder if anyone can point to a time when he questioned a repug in such an aggressive manner.

Some of his defenders on DU claim he does this to everyone and is all over the map with no rhyme and reason. I agree that he is unstable, but I think there is a definite pattern to his moodswings.

His interviews with potential for real newsmaking and "hardball" questioning seem to fizzle whenever they involve republicans. Remember his puffpiece with Delay?

Once again, I would like to see an example of him being aggressive in this way with a repug.

But he took the other guy to task. Unfair.

All KO did was point out that it wasn't Hardball and it wasn't the time or place to grill supporters about their candidates, period. It was election coverage. You let them on the camera, you ask them some questions, they spew their bullshit about the candidate, you thank them and that's it. Tweety wasn't supposed to be grilling EITHER person...but he chose to grill one. Now he's preening like the cock of the walk. "Yeah, that's me. I'm a hardass, all right. Yeah!"

it would still be a bit unfair - asking a member of the U.S. Congress to list a U.S. Senator's bills and asking a STATE Senator to list a member of the U.S. Senate's legislation - well the advantage goes to the person who actually serves at the Federal level. They are more familiar with which members work on which legislation.

Matthews won't touch Obama with this, but he'll keep trying. We're kidding ourselves if we think the corporate media will be fair to him, especially once he is the nominee. In the meantime,tweets looks like a fool. He's proven in the past, though, that this doesn't bother him.

5. That's not the first time he's done that.

I've seen him do it to at least two other people. One guy was a Republican member of Congress, the other a retired General. Both times it was about the war and Matthews asked, "Who is our enemy in Iraq?" Then he'd get some spin answer and he'd interrupt and say, no, tell me who the enemy is, this is a simple question, etc. I was surprised to see it then and when I saw him do it last night I was reminded of those other instances I had seen.

I'm actually proud of him for doing that kind of thing; I just wish he would do it more, put people on the spot and not let them get away with bullshit.

That Senator last night is representative of the vast majority of Obama supporters I've encountered. Rarely can they answer a question about Obama. They usually give some squishy answer about him being a "community organizer" or they tell you to go to his website.

Matthews needs to do this to every Obama and Hillary supporter he can get on his show.

Sorry, new to this and not really sure how to link, so below is my response to a similar thread from earlier this evening...

"I think Matthews was trying to make a point that people have been somehow "swept up" in the Obama-mania without really knowing much about his accomplishments. We all know that Barack has done many wonderful things, but I have to admit that part of me does wonder how many of his supporters, especially the younger generation, are supporting him because they are doing what is popular instead of supporting him because he is the best candidate. I like both Barack and Hillary, but my gut is telling me to support Hillary in Ohio. No matter who ends up our candidate for the GE, they have my support!"

So . . . That really happened.

On Tuesday night, after an important and historic victory in the Wisconsin Presidential Primary by Senator Barack Obama, I appeared on the MSNBC post-election program. “Hardball” host Chris Matthews (who is, it turns out, as ferocious as they say), began grilling me on Senator Obama’s legislative record.

And my mind went blank. I expected to be asked about the primary that night, or the big one coming up in Texas on March 4, or just about anything else in the news. When the subject changed so emphatically, I reached for information that millions of my fellow Obama supporters could recite by heart, and I couldn’t summon it.

My most unfortunate gaffe is not, in any way, a comment on Senator Obama, his substantial record, or the great opportunity we all share to elect him President of the United States.

Had I not lost my mind, here are the accomplishments I would have mentioned:

* Senator Obama’s fight for universal children’s health care in Illinois.
* His success bringing Republicans and Democrats together (a huge selling point for me in general) on bills such as the one in Illinois requiring police interrogations and confessions to be videotaped.
* His leadership on ethics reform in Washington (the bill that lobbyists and special interests are complaining about right now has his name on it).
* His bill to make the federal budget far more transparent and accessible to Americans via the Internet – we could use that openness in Texas.
* And his vital work with Republicans to lock down nuclear weapons around the world.
