An opinion on Obama:"He's the Tiger Woods of the Democratic Party"
I called him a rock star, others are calling him Tiger Woods, regardless we have something special. I hope every Democrat in the nation does their part to get his man elected!

-snip-
"He's the Tiger Woods of the Democratic Party," said Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas, who finished fourth in the race. "It was a landslide victory, and he is someone who has been chosen to bridge the gap between all communities and ethnic groups and all races in this state."

The Rev. Jesse Jackson emphasized the importance of Obama's election to the minority community, but also credited the coalition -- including blacks and Jews -- that came together for the candidate.

"At a time there's so much polarization, so much bitterness and anger and hurt, we need coalition leaders," Jackson said.

Obama shrugged off his cross-racial appeal, attributing it to a more open-minded electorate.

"People are interested in what a candidate's message is and less concerned about their color or where they reside," Obama said. "I don't want to be Pollyannish. Obviously race remains a factor in our country, and I don't think that's going to go away any time soon.

"I am hopeful, however, and I think that yesterday's results indicate that my faith in the American people and their capacity to take a look at candidates who may not share the same surname or the same racial background as them is" not misplaced.

22. He was born in Kenya non?
I met him once before when he was in Harvard and I seem to recall he mentioned this. So according to the Constitution he couldn't run.

10. He hs a handy "Debt Calculator" on the front page of his site so you can
see just how much your part of the nation debt is - here are the numbers:

The national debt on March 18: $7,113,058,404,353.38
Your share of the national debt: $24,291.32

I wish Emmanuel had some video footage (at his site) of himself talking - I remember him well from his Clinton days but would love to hear him speak on today's issues!

13. He's star quality--no doubt!
He's got the full package--the looks, the passion and the ability to articulate it and not scare the moderates. His wife and two pretty little girls just make it even better.

Obama has accomplished a LOT in the Illinois Senate--and remember--he did a lot of it at a time when the GOP controlled this state. I've seen his work for a few years now especially on Health Care in Illinois. Obama got the Bernadine amendment passed along with several other critical bills, and he managed to do it with bi-partisan support a lot of the time.

Even in the midst of his campaign, he's been working on a bill that will force Illinois hospitals to bill the uninsured at the same negotiated rates insured people get--not the higher rates that are sometimes up to twice as much.

He's good on all the issues--and it does a disservice to him for me to single out health care--but it is an area that he deserves recognition and applause for.

I know his name is not familiar to a lot of you yet--particularly if you are not in Illinois or maybe not terribly activist on any one cause like health care--but he IS an amazing guy. Pay attention to this man--you'll be seeing him a lot in the future.

I have little doubt he's going to win this November. I was saying "Yes we can" back in the summer when I was on the host committee for a fund raiser for him. I'm saying YES WE CAN! even louder now that he's won a seven way primary with over 50% of the vote.

Edited on Fri Mar-19-04 09:20 AM by rocknation
After eight years of serving under President Edwards or Clinton or Clark, he'd be at the right age to run in 2020 (58). With solid White House experience and national exposure, it would be hard to hold his race against him.

23. But...
Jack Ryan's name is strikingly similar to very, very unpopular former governor George Ryan. I doubt that will help him one bit, as many people will probably confuse the two at the polls.
