This hurts Mac, but it would have been better placed if it had been planted in a few months.

My feeling is that there is more to this story and it will be revealed as we get closer to the convention.

2. Chuck Todd just said that
It's not the NYT's style to put something this vague out there....unless there's more that they're not saying....yet.

Hmmm.

7. Yup
There will be more to this story.

NYTimes wouldn't go with this story without there being more there.

3. There is a reason long term Senators like McCain never win Presidential Elections
There are alot of skeletons and bad votes in their closet. This is only the beginning

6. aside from any 'sex'. there appears to be quid pro quo ethics issues, like from his Keating 5 days
this is showing a pattern of money for favors for McCain.

10. Agreed. Even if there was no sex, the lobbyist influence looks bad for Mr. Integrity.

It appears McCain did everything he could to stop this.

MEDIA FIREWORKS: MCCAIN PLEADS WITH NY TIMES TO SPIKE STORY
Thu Dec 20 2007 10:49:27 ET

Just weeks away from a possible surprise victory in the primaries, Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz has been waging a ferocious behind the scenes battle with the NEW YORK TIMES, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned, and has hired DC power lawyer Bob Bennett to mount a bold defense against charges of giving special treatment to a lobbyist!

McCain has personally pleaded with NY TIMES editor Bill Keller not to publish the high-impact report involving key telecom legislation before the Senate Commerce Committee, newsroom insiders tell the DRUDGE REPORT.

The paper’s Jim Rutenberg has been leading the investigation and is described as beyond frustrated with McCain’s aggressive and angry efforts to stop any and all publication.

The drama involves a woman lobbyist who may have helped to write key telecom legislation. The woman in question has retained counsel and strongly denies receiving any special treatment from McCain.

17. I am of the strong opinion this hit piece by the nywhore times will
backfire on them and will help McCain. I watched his news conference this morning and was impressed by the demeanor and the controlled way he answered the questions. That goes a long way and I was impressed more by the lawyer Bennett which said the article was written in such a way that it left the conclusion up to the reader as there was no there, there.

20. This is true
That was my impression in reading the article---no there, there. If he handles this well---looks in command---it only helps him.

I'm of the opinion, due to the timeing of this, that if any entity was behind this story coming out, it was a Republican group that doesn't want to see McCain get the nomination.

21. Another "hillary supporter" complimenting McCain
...shocking... :sarcasm:

I've read previous posts of you bashing Obama and yet you're complimenting McCain and calling the NYTimes article a 'hitpiece' without even questioning the fact that McCain might have been doing special favors for a lobbyist. Wow. Dumbass.
