It helps I live in MA and I had five other kids on my side...and this kid is generally disliked...but I tried to keep it civil.

Anyway, he told me that John Kerry is a two-faced liar. I asked him to elaborate. He said that JK served in Vietnam, then came back protested it.

I explained how someone's views could change, that JK decided the war was unjust, and decided the best way to protect his brothers-in-arms would be to protest the war and bring it to an end.

Ok, he said, that makes sense.

Then he said, well, Bill Clinton was only concerned about America's economy (this was after we discussed Bush economic issues). I guess he meant Clinton ONLY focused on the economy, but I took it as ONLY america's economy. I then went off on an Edwardsian rant about offshoring and GWB being a boost to China and India and how he was a great facilitator of jobs there, but not in the US.

Oh, I nailed him good...anyways, here's to fighting for every inch, every vote!

2. good for you
you can further nail him by asking who has the most right to criticize a war - the one who volunteered for it and realized it was wrong, but the one who chose the slippery path out and then accusing the other of not being patriotic,

3. congratulations!
Repukes are often inundated with the likes of Coulter and Hannity telling them that Democrats are anti-American, or that we don't have the ability to reason.

I personally found out by accident how easy it can be to counter the weak arguments of the repukes. Sounds like you did, too.

4. You know what I do?
I win these impromptu debates all the time myself.
When there is time and it is appropriate, I usually wind up with a recommendation. I say that you Republicans, or people who consider yourselves conservative, for whatever reason, should vote for Kerry and a straight Dem ticket this November. Why? Because you need to sweep these corporatist, right-wing handjobs out of office and take over your party to make it what it used to be -- something a bit more honorable than it is today.
