Dr. Dean's New Grassroots Movement
I've just finished listening to Dean on Hardball, where he laid out his plans for his new venture. As a Clark supporter, let me just say this - hallelujah, somebody "gets it."

By mentioning Ralph Reed and the success he had on the right, it is clear to me that Dean realizes that change must come from the bottom up. Using the Reed model (school boards, county commissioners, etc.) rather than trying for more "visible" positions, Dean will hopefully build the infrastructure that is so necessary for the Democratic party at this time.

I am hopeful that his organization will have people looking to run for these positions, and more importantly that there are those in place who can teach Politics 101 to the neophytes. I am a bit leery of this, due to the perception that Dean carries with him still, but I believe that over time the stigma of the "Dean Scream" will wear away, and the organization will prosper.

Kudos to Dean for this effort, and a hearty thumbs up from a former adversary.

3. I supported Dean
and I certainly will keep active in his organization.

I also watched him on Hardball and I cannot believe how much sense
he makes.

I was worried about how he would use his mailing list. To me that would be an indicator of his sincerity. He answered the question just how I wanted him too.

I am so sad that he will not be our president. In my opinion, he is the most honorable politician in the public realm today.

6. His influence is far from over.
He may end up having more power and being more of a force for good in the role he is carving out for himself.

4. This is exactly what is needed. There is not as much Glory, but in the...
longrun, more of a difference can be made by starting at the bottom, than by starting at the top.

We need to identify every race we can target (high or low), where we can make a difference, and thereby have the candidate beholden to the people instead of corporate campaign contributions.

And there is actually more power to impact on peoples lives, more immediately, at the state and local level than at the federal level.

Take the people onboard down low, and they will carry you to the top.

13. We've got around 20 or so Dean people
Edited on Fri Mar-19-04 07:05 AM by lojasmo
In chair positions on the local DFL. hundreds of delegates, nearly all of them brand new to the DFL (like me, they have VOTED democratic, but have never been inside the system.) We're rocking the system! Thank you Governor.

14. Our Dean group here in Johnson County, TX, is doing just this.
We have 3 Precinct chairs, we're working for our new Democratic Senator as a result of the Tom DeLay re-districting, and we're also working on a lesser level with our neighboring counties. Actually, our Dean group has invigorated the Democratic Party here, which was really languishing.
