Inland (CA) Dean backers vow continued political work
Marci Surpin said she isn't the kind of person who usually gets involved in political campaigns. Fed up with the direction the Bush administration was leading the country, the UC Riverside research professor began hosting meetings for supporters of former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean.

(snip)

Dean's legions of supporters, including those in the Inland area, are steadfastly standing with him. On Thursday, Dean announced that his new organization, Democracy for America, will recruit progressive candidates to run for Congress, state legislatures and city councils nationwide.

(snip)

Many of the Inland supporters strategize every Wednesday in a Riverside coffee shop. They discuss how they should support the likely Democrat nominee, Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry, and talk about raising money to pay for radio ads criticizing President Bush.

(snip)

In announcing that he was forming a new grass-roots organization that will focus on issues such as universal healthcare, cleaning up the environment and campaign-finance reform, Dean will work not only to unseat Bush, but also to provide a "campaign in a box" model to recruit and fund progressive candidates who support Dean's ideals.

"It's your job to make sure that never again does the Democratic Party lay down and die and stop fighting," Dean told about 500 cheering supporters gathered at a rally in Seattle Thursday morning.

2. It doesn't surprise me that you have not gotten any response.
Unless it is a anti Dean post, you won't get many posts. Dean as a subject is not appreciated here. I suggest that you check out his new movement site. For some reason many DU users fear/hate/??? Dean and his supporters. We will work hard to get the Nominee elected and they could use our help. But, don't count on this site being Dean friendly for a long time. I think I will leave here for awhile, I can not get excited about this election, here! Will look for you over there! ......take_back_our_republic

4. I think more that Riverside co
is a forgotten backwater for dems ,so as san bernadino. The groper won by 70% around here. The national party gave no assitance to a good anti war/union rep running against Bono last time. The PE is a rabid rw rag as is the desert sun.

5. I'm from Riverside--not a total lost cause!
:)

I have a theory that the newer areas, with the new and expensive track-homes tend to lean Republican; those areas are expanding so quickly..so I can see why the city as a whole it tending to lean conservative.

Hmm, I don't really think that the Press Enterprise is rabidly right-wing. I've heard others (namely, my government teacher) describe it as leaning liberal. I thought it was pretty balanced, granted I don't read it everyday or anything..what did I miss?

I don't think that the recall election is a real indication of the demographics of any of the cities..it certainly isn't of California as a whole. One of my cousins, who is dissatisfied with Bush, bought into the whole stardom of Arnold and wanting something different from Davis. He saw my Democratic bumperstickers and teasingly offered me an Arnold one..er, no thanks. :puke:

Of course, I'm in Ken Calvert's district..the guy who was caught with a hooker and was still re-elected by a good margin, yuck.

to discredit JK every single political cartoon. Their columns are invariably RW: Will, Malkin ,Safire et al( to their credit, they fired Anthrax Coulter, but why did they hire her?) their Liberal columnists are weak and mealy mouthed, and intermiitant I think of them as Margaret Carlson of the print media. I am proud to say the last election in Palm Springs gave Mary Bono pause and she made a 180 and now opposes the Marriage Amendment.

7. Used to work in Riverside county
and grew up in east Anahiem. Been awhile since I was there, but it was a fast growing area in the 90's, I would assume its prime target for the Dems now.
