Where the heck is John Edwards?
His Web site is frozen at March 3 -- no new announcements since then. Dean and CLark have been making the media rounds, getting the word out and backing Kerry.

There have been the rumor-rumblings here about Edwards getting back into the NC senate race, but other than that, I haven't heard/seen him at all.

Anyone know the whereabouts and disposition of JE?

21. The E-mail...
One thing that should be noted about the E-mail was the ending line..

Stayed
tuned for more information on how we can continue to make a
difference, together, because for this campaign the difference
is "We."

This indicates that their will be more information coming and urged Edwards supporters to go to thier meet-ups...tonight.

He will also be at the Unity Dinner and will be in ND at the state convention in April.

I expect that we will hear more from him in April. There's a long road until Nov.

2. He turned over his rich donor list and now Kerry has no more use for him?
(Really, Kerry probably wants him to keep quiet about his anti-NAFTA stance and his Two Americas campaign. Can't have him upsetting the $2000 apiece donors with that populist stuff.)

Kerry will haul Edwards out for the right issues, as soon as he has sufficiently ignored and decimated the progressive populist Kucinich.

7. In The End, Edwards Agreed In Principle With NAFTA
Just as Kerry does...

Edwards' populist posture was nearly as phoney as Dean's.

9. Um, not exactly. Edwards, in the beginning, middle and end, agreed with
the principle that American workerks shouldn't have to compete with foreign countries which compete with America through exploiting the environment and labor.

3. here's the email I rec'd today
Dear Friend,

We just want to take this opportunity to tell you how much you mean to us -- if we can just find the words to convey the breadth of our gratitude, affection, and pride.
Frankly, in this moment we don't trust words - they cannot be big enough for all that we feel. John said it best, of course, as he always does, in his speech at Broughton High School earlier this month, when he listed some of those he met along the way. But we want you to know that the speech at Broughton could only be a few minutes long while the list of those to whom we are indebted, by whom we have been inspired, and for whom we feel unbreakable bonds goes on and on.

You - the you that made us together a "we" - cannot be measured by minutes. In fact, there was not a single minute, not even a moment in the past fourteen months (yes, it has been that long) that you did not give us more than we gave you. You were at events before we came, you stayed and cheered us, and you gathered names and cleaned up after we left.

While we got the applause, you got to haul the signs. Though our photographs were in the paper, we want you to know that your faces are memorialized in our hearts. We knew then and we know now that we were only the names on the signs, the faces at the head of a great wave to bring politics and government back home, to you, the real "we" in this campaign.

You are the movement, you are the wave, and you will get your government back -- we know this because we believe in your strength, in your energy, in your power.

Our "we" includes each of you. And think about what you accomplished: with no institutional support, with no national endorsements, with little in the way of poll results to encourage you, you trusted yourselves more, and you believed. And then you spoke loudly enough, you worked hard enough, you believed in the cause enough to show America that no one except the voters get to choose in the end. No one will forget that lesson.

And we have not forgotten it either. The voters have said this: Senator Kerry will be our nominee. We are fortunate because John Kerry has strength and vision, which he has proven at every step of his accomplished lifetime. He has been brilliant and thoughtful and courageous beyond most of our imaginings. He has, too, an iron will that did not waiver in this process, though he, like we, had many moments when it might have. What that fact says about a man cannot be over-stated: John Kerry has what it takes to lead this nation. Now it remains for us -- all of us -- to make that happen.

Now, as we spend some time with the children, as we sort through mail and papers that have collected at the house, as we catch up on sleep that we were too busy to notice that we needed, we want to say this: We will always watch for you. You are part of our lives now and we won't say goodbye, because we do not want that to change.

Politics is not something strange and cold: it is just you and us, lots of yous and lots of us-es, standing in the rain with signs, marching in a parade, sharing cookies in a living room, waiting patiently in a church, cheering wildly in a hotel ballroom, blowing up balloons and making phone calls, passing out leaflets and knocking on doors, making a contribution and posting on the blog, and believing and believing and believing.

And we still believe at this very moment that anything is possible in America. Our work is just getting started and we need to maintain this energy and passion for our country until the final vote is cast in November.

We are stronger and better and broader and deeper than anyone knows. We are determined to change this country for the better, and we know what it takes in our hearts to end George Bush's presidency and launch a new beginning for America.

We can and we will make a difference as long as we continue to fight for the things that made us stand in the rain, knock on doors, make a contribution, and believe again. We will continue to hope and work hard to change the country we love. Stayed tuned for more information on how we can continue to make a difference, together, because for this campaign the difference is "We."

Thank you.

John and Elizabeth Edwards

P.S. - The next Edwards Meetup takes place tomorrow night, on Tuesday, March 23. Meetups for Edwards supporters are happening all over the country in hundreds of cities with thousands of supporters. 8. People said the same thing about Dean and Clark
Considering how hard it is to campaign 24/7, it's not unreasonable for Edwards to take several weeks off before jumping back into the ring.

The election is still more than 6 months away, the man has time to rest, do his work as a Senator, and campaign for Kerry. It's not neccessary to hit the trail again this very moment.

Clark was campaigning for Kerry two weeks to the day after he withdrew from the race (which was the day after the TN/VA primaries). He hasn't stopped since.

Plus Clark is most likely in better physical shape than any other candidate (he looks like it at least). Plus Edwards has small children he needs to spend time with too. Let him rest!

12. i have heard 2 different things ( both rumors)
one thing i heard is he was told he either wont or isn't likely to be picked for vice president so he is trying to think of what he will do next and maybe run for some other office.

the other thing i heard is he is in top consideration for vp so they want to keep him out of the spot light for now and maybe get him to work on knowing the issues (especially foreign policy)just in case he is chosen for vp so he can be prepared.

it's not that surprising that the first rumor i mention comes mostly from those who don't want edwards as vp. and the second comes from those who do want edwards for vp.

13. I think the 2nd
Look who is out there and who isn't. Graham and Clark. I've heard Clark's wife doesn't want him to be VP and Graham won't add anything to Florida. Who isn't out there? Edwards, Gephardt, Nelson and Bayh. Maybe some others I'm not thinking about. I bet they're on the VP list and they don't want them carrying water until the final decision is made.

17. Not true
"Clark's wife doesn't want him to be VP"

This was printed in the Washington Times and repeated on CNN, but Gert Clark never said this. She denies it. This is the same journalistic combo that said Edwards is going to run for re-election as Senator, so I don't believe any of it. I already know they lied once.

I'm for letting Kerry pick his own VP, so I don't get into this part of it.

I think it takes more than a couple of months to "Know" foreign policy.......I don't think a crash seminar is gonna quite do it. This is serious business.....best Edwards leaves that to the "big boys".

19. i agree
2 months isn't enough. but from what i understand if kerry picks edwards for vp kerry wont be giving him much work to do in policy, especially foreign policy. edwards role will mostly be in doing things such as attending events honoring people, or funerals, or campaigning, or other similar type things where he just has to be there to represent the administration.

20. Your post ignores Edwards' very real fp experience.
As a member of the Senate Select Committee for Intelligence, John Edwards has more foreign policy experience than Reagan, or Clinton when they were elected President.

Ewdards was one of the first Senators to travel to Afghanistan after the war and meet with leaders like Musharif in this very critical region. (Remember Bush couldn't name Musharif in the 2000 campaign.)

Furthermore, as an attorney Edwards demonstrated the ability to become an expert in many different fields in a very short period of time. He's an exteremely intelligent man with much to offer a Kerry administration. I hope Kerry's attitude isn't this dismissive of what Edwards has to offer.

28. yes, edwards does have a lot to offer
but he still isn't very knowledgeable when it comes to foreign policy. i know he went to some other nations. but when speaking of foreign policy, bill clinton was far more knowledgable than edwards. edwards going to those countries was part of a group of senators that went, but edwards still has trouble when speaking of the issues concerning international politics. he didn't talk foreign policy much and anytime he did it was prepared speeches and he would never take questions on it. and i say this as someone who would be happy with edwards as vp. and i think he would help kerry a lot if kerry picks him for vp. vp is actually one of the best positions for edwards other than attorney general in a kerry administration because a vp mostly just does whatever the president wants them and it gives them many opportunities to get the experience and knowledge needed if they plan to run for president in the future, which edwards will do especially if chosen for vp.

29. I agree that vp is a good place to groom future Presidents.
This is one of the reasons I support Edwards as Kerry's running mate. With 8 years of vp experience under his belt, Edwards would be unstoppable in 2012. Edwards for VP is the best way for Kerry to protect his legacy.

However, I still think you might be underestimating Edwards somewhat. Edwards knew he couldn't compete with Kerry or Clark based on foreign policy experience so he tended to avoid the subject. He was a very disciplined candidate who stayed on message and tried to focus his rhetoric on subject areas favorable to him. This is a technique he learned in court rooms. Spend as little time as possible on the weakest part of your case.

Just because he didn't spend a lot of time talking about foreign policy during the primary, doesn't mean he isn't knowledgeable and doesn't mean he can't learn incredibly fast. His ability to absorb large quantities of information and synthesize it into a persuasive argument would be invaluable in debating Cheney.

Had no foreign policy experience - they were governors. One might argue "look where his (Bush's) lack of experience has taken us" - and I would agree. The point however, is obviously the public doesn't care.

26. Here he is!
Just got this email from "info@johnkerry.com" signed by Edwards.

Together We Will Build One America

Dear ,

I am writing to you now to ask you to act in support of my good friend Senator John Kerry. John will be our next President, I am sure of it, and he will lead this country with wisdom and an unswerving vision. He knows that we can once again inspire the world with our optimism and strength.

But make no mistake: we're in the fight of our lives. This president will stop at nothing to win in November, and he would rather help his insider friends than take the steps we desperately need to create jobs and restore hope to everyday Americans. He is using fear and division to obscure what the American people know: that we need a new leader in the White House. And he would rather distort John Kerry's record and try to win by throwing mud than tell the truth and expose his real record.

Fortunately, the American people are all too aware of the truth about George W. Bush. Over 3 million of them have lost their jobs under his watch, as they've seen his CEO cronies double and triple their own salaries. 35 million Americans live in poverty, desperate for work and respect, watching incredulously as the government hands tax breaks to big business. And Americans of all backgrounds have watched the gap between rich and poor widen under his administration, and realized that only the rich do well in George W. Bush's America.

But John Kerry will build one America -- one that works for all of us, not just the privileged few. But to do this, we must stand together and support John against the Republican attack machine. Your financial support right now to John Kerry's "$10 Million in 10 Days" campaign will send a clear message to George W. Bush: we will not stand for another four years!

https://contribute.johnkerry.com

John Kerry is the leader we need right now. I am going to do everything I can to support his run for President, and I'm asking you to do the same. Together, we can build a country where no one is left behind, no one is forgotten, and everyone has an equal chance.

Believe it or not, a small donation is one of the most powerful ways to act for John Kerry. $25, $50, or $100 now allows John to get his message in front of millions of Americans. It's that simple.

https://contribute.johnkerry.com

Thank you,
John Edwards
