Post your inspirational "conversion" stories here...
Because it's been couple weeks since I've seen another thread like this, I'll bring it up.

Anybody know some conservatives or independents who voted for Bush* last time but won't this time? Please tell us your story. These things pop up all the time, so I figure (as have others before me) that they should all be collected into one place.

I know of one guy but I've told his story a couple of times so I won't bore you all with it again. Let's just say that I think he'll make a good Democrat in a couple of years. Ever since I've met him he's been drifting leftwards. Just the other day he said about Clinton's sexcapades "one mistake doesn't ruin his whole Presidency". That floored me.

Also, my uncle, one of those "they're all corrupt politicians so why should I care?" types is so mad at the Shrub that he's going to vote against him.

Anybody else?

1. Here's one
I was in line at our company cafeteria and the subject of
jobs was brought up (we are going through major changes at work).
A fellow Electrical Engineer that I have
worked with for several years says "I have voted republican all
of my life, this time I am not voting republican". I was shocked.
We both graduated from Texas A&M. Home of the George Bush library.
I have always felt like the lone Democrat. I didn't push the subject.
I am a closet Democrat at work. It is prudent to do that when all of your bosses are republican.

2. I wish I had even one story like this. But I live in PLANO, TX.
I will post as soon as I get one. I am working on ongoing project, though...

3. My mom..
Earlier this year, I was telling my mom how I am going to vote and we were talking about the campaign. She said "Well...what if I want to keep Bush as President..?"..and I tell her about everything that he has done wrong to this country. And she just goes "Okayy...well..I wasn't that attached to him anyway..."

So then she goes with half-heartedly taking my word for it to learning about the issues and now she's so fired up against Bush and intent on voting for Kerry in November!

She's was the type of person who didn't really understand the differences between the two parties, thought they were all the same, and somehow thought that she was too uninformed to make a decision...but now she's informed and interested! :)

4. Here's a quick one that shocked me...
I spoke with my mother yesterday. She has ALWAYS voted republican. In fact, she will not carry dimes because they FDR on them! Anyway, she told me yesterday, that she cannot vote for bush!

After a long pause, she told me flat out, that in her 79 years on this planet, she could not think of anyone that was worse as a president, including Clinton, whom she despises with a passion that borders on rabid.

I do not know who she will vote for in Nov, but it will not be for bush. This will be the first time since she was able to vote, when she will NOT pull the lever for the GOP candidate.

It is a good thing that she has finally seen the light.

7. My brother in law, a lawyer.
He always votes straight Republican. My sister told me he likes Kerry now. Coulda knocked me over with a feather.

I'm wondering if it had anything to do with the book I gave him for Xmas by Arianna Huffington (Pigs at the Trough). I'd love to take credit for his conversion, but I know he is smart enough to figure it out for himself. He always did think Bush was borderline illiterate, but he had faith that he couldn't screw up the entire country, until now.

I will be gracious and not gloat about this. (Until after Kerry is elected, of course!)

8. I know of one
That's ongoing in LI. I'll ask DU-er dmr to come over and post her story.

On the other hand, though, I spoke to a couple fellow protestors from the Inauguration protest. Both of these Democrats were only cautiously optimistic we would win. Both cited the republican war chest as the reason for their guardedness.
