I'm afraid Hillary won't...
...I'm afraid Hillary won't drop out. It worries me that she will do so-so in Teaxas and win Ohio by afew points, giving her "reason" to continue on till the convention. That at the convention, dirty tricks, some that go against the rules, and some that go with the rules will be used for her to win the nomination. I'm afraid that will split the party and we will be looking at an angry John McCain, who by all reports blows up every other day.

...I'm afraid Obama won't drop out. It worries me that if he does poorly in Texas and Ohio, it will lead to a turning point where the remainder of the states slide away from him. That once this happens, he will not bow to the numbers which at this point will show Hillary ahead in the popular vote as well as delegates going into the last leg of the race. I'm afraid that he will push it to the convention where it will turn ugly with dirty tricks, some with the rules and some against.. will be used to win the nomination. All of this will take place while the right wing sits back with a bag of popcorn pretending to be sports announcers as they call out the best of the worst to America.

You see, these type scenarios are what makes me shake.. not the thought of my candidate Obama losing, or the thought of Hillary winning. I would jump up and down with joy to have either.. as a clear cut winner. Its the in between.. the travesty of a potential end game where our party falls apart as we, and the candidates use every last second to rip each others throats out.

1. Could very well happen
The campaign has been quite heated and negative and gets worse by the day, at the end you have about half the Democrats wanting Hillary and half wanting Obama. And many are bound to be disappointed by the opposing canidate winning a very close and bitterly fought contest. McCain also is a person who could get conservative Democrats. This is turning into a nightmare for the Democrats and a loss to McCain is a real possibility.

2. This worries me a great deal.
Recently, I spoke with my uncle, who has always been a Democrat. Even forty years ago, he was the one who encouraged me to look at voting records rather than just going along with a popular candidate.

He told me that he could not support Obama, and he will vote for McCain. I was dumbfounded! I asked him how he could tell me in one breath that he is voting for Franken, and in the next for McCain.

I tried to remind him about all the things I had learned from him. He would not budge. He is simply tired of all the fighting between Clinton and Obama. It makes no sense, but I think we may see more of this.

I was hoping that the republican primaries would mirror ours. They, too would have a fight on their hands, and not decide on a nominee until the very end. I don't think that will happen now. They will have time to unite, decide on strategy, and vote in their usual lockstep.

I think a lot of them crossed over to vote for Obama, just to mess with our primaries, too.

5. It should
Everything is falling into place for this result. I'm prepared for a President McCain, and if not will be pleasantly surprised. I would give odds that McCain has a 60% chance to win right now.

8. Nah, Chimpy can't wait to get out of town.
I don't think he even wanted the second term. This is one thing you should not worry about.

6. You don't get it
Edited on Tue Feb-26-08 04:04 AM by 1awake
and I don't mean that as an insult. It has absolutely nothing to do with people getting a chance to vote. My fear is, we will learn together that which I mean in the OP, and we both will be subject to several years to reflect on it.

edit: spelling

10. say what you will skittles.
I'm not trying to sway your thinking one way or another. Some see what I'm talking about, others don't. Some see it as something ominous lurking over the horizon.. others see this as an issue revolving around voters right to have a choice as long as possible. I'm not saying your point is wrong, all I'm saying is what I see coming in the long run.

9. There are tried and true systems in place for any eventuality. This
"let's get it over with for the good of the party" business brings to mind Tweety screaming for Al Gore to end his quest to get the freaking votes in Florida counted. He screamed it all day long, every day.

That's what we've been getting almost since Iowa. It's downright undemocratic.

11. undemocratic...
interesting way of putting it. Our tried and true systems are anything but that. Only once to my knowledge has these systems ever been tried, and it was a controversy then as well. Undemocratic.. becoming president to me.. is about wanting to do what is right for the country, and the American people. It will come down to weighing the outcomes for either of them, and sooner or later they will have to decide what serves the people most.

15. I'm a little worried about that scenario too. I hope that both nominees
have what it takes to do the right thing before the convention.

16. I'm not afraid...
I've had plenty that scared the shit out of me in the last decade. I am so over worrying about future events that are in no way real. I have convinced myself to do the best, be the best that I can, and let it ride.
