How the Hell do I respond tho this????
I received this email from my brother-in-law who was a Marine pilot in Vietnam. I am a Kerry supporter, and I know there's a lot of arrogance in ALL of our Senators, but this is a real tough one to respond to.

What do you think?

I would like to add my two cents about my John Kerry experience. During
my career as an Air Force pilot, I spent two years flying a small
twin-engine prop plane around the Pacific from my base in Okinawa, Japan.
On one trip we had to fly Senator Kerry, his congressional aide, and a
Navy Captain (Vietnam, A-4 fighter pilot) who was also in Kerry's party
to various locations in Vietnam and Cambodia as part of the MIA/POW
talks. When I met him, he was wearing a shirt with a picture of his
sailboat on it. I told him I had a small 27' sailboat in Okinawa, he
remarked 'Oh I never sail on anything less than 135 feet'. I laughed to
myself and realized this guy was no sailor.

When we first flew him into Phnom Penh, he went to the back of the
airplane and grabbed the pizza that was put aside for the crew and passed
it around to his staff. He was never offered any pizza because they were
supposed to have lunch with the Cambodian government once we landed. The
pizza would have been our only meal that day. He just never cared to ask.

Then when we picked him up in Cambodia, he was an hour late getting to
the airport. We could not start the engines and therefore the air
conditioning until he arrived. Phnom Penh at that time was over 100
degrees with 95% humidity and we were basically sitting in a greenhouse
behind the cockpit windows. When he finally did arrive, we were wringing
out our clothes from the perspiration. He walks out of the air
conditioned car, into the airplane and asks us 'Could you guys get the
air conditioning running, I'm a little warm." The other pilot had to
physically restrain me from going back there and picking a fight.

Then we took him into Noi Bai airfield in Hanoi. After we picked him up
the next day (he stayed the night in Vietnam, we stayed in Bangkok) we
taxied out, ran up the engines for takeoff, and noticed that our prop rpm
was vibrating all over the place. We taxied off to the side to look at
it, but there was a good possibility that there was an engine malfunction
and the engine may fail if we took off with it. Well, Mr. Senator sticks
his head up in the cockpit and says 'this plane WILL take - off, I have a
press conference in Bangkok in three hours!"(Maybe this is an indication
of how he will run the FAA). We ran the engines again, and did not have
the problem, so we took off and made it back.

During the flight, he told everyone how he had taken a Cessna (a small
General aviation plane) up with a fighter pilot, and the fighter pilot
remarked that Kerry was one of the best pilots he had ever seen. I don't
know about other pilots out there, but it's hard to imagine a little,
single-engine prop plane pilot being able to show the 'right stuff'.

After Kerry left the plane, the Navy Captain came up to us, apologized
and said basically that he knows Kerry is a jerk and that we should be
glad we don't have to deal with him every day....

Or will we?
WE HAD BETTER GET OUT AND VOTE!!

from your snopes link...I love snopes too :)

Whatever the probity of the e-mailed account, the larger issue isn't whether this specific piece is true, but whether the sentiment it expresses — that Senator Kerry goes through life with his nose in the air, oblivious to the hoi polloi who inhabit his immediate surroundings — is accurate. In regards to that issue, we can confirm that others have reported experiencing similar encounters with Senator Kerry

In case you missed that part...just a little food fro thought...we already have one jerk with that sense of entitlement...I'd sure hate it if we get another

Peace

And they cited only one other "story" but whenever someone reports something bad about Kerry some here (!) give 100% credence to it.
The intern story should have been a lesson for some peeps.

18. Come On Now!!!
Who ever said Kerry was perfect? I've never heard anyone say he was a man of the people; he a patrician, plain and simple. But the question must be, will he be a good President? On that score, I'm pretty confident that he will know what he's doing, maybe more so than any Democrat to occupy the White House in a long time. I think Clinton was great - the last 6 years, but the first 2 were rough.

The real no brainer is weather Kerry will do a better job of running America. Believe me, I could do a better job than * (or Cheney, who is the real power behind the crown).

I may not want to hang with Kerry and have a few beers, but I sure as hell want him as President - now would be nice.

23. JFK, RFK
The curse of the rich is insensitivity. It is part of the privileged territory more than a moral failing. Would you vote against Kennedy based on his arrogance and lack of appreciation of others' feelings?

If you lived you life surrounded naturally by entitlement you wouldn't understand those working around you were doing anymore than the job- conspicuous only by its absence.

But how does Bush who has gone way way over into wallowing in that life have the nerve to cast the first stone? Easy, an even worse attitude- this time studied and manipulative.

Kerry ticked off some people. Don't know anyone who has done anything that hasn't. But he hasn't murdered anyone, lied about his service or his criminal background nor has his family stole money from the American people.

Shouldn't be that hard.

27. Bush has made some comments
Edited on Tue Mar-23-04 08:28 PM by indie_voter
He made fun of a death row inmate, he told a prof he didn't understand how poor people think, etc.

None of this is really relevant, the zinger is Kerry at least SERVED, while Bush couldn't even fulfill stateside duty. Cheney had "other priorities".

Throw in some comments made by O'Neill and Clarke about his attitude towards policy meetings for good measure.

Somebody more eloquent than me can put all of that together to counter this kind of idiocy.

29. The Snopes piece is fair...
and reminds me of the observations a cousin of mine made.

He was in the old House technology office, and his job was to explain to Congresscritters such things as just which end of a rocket went up.

He said, esentially, that he was was bemused and somewhat digusted by every single one of them. Liberal, conservative, Republican, Democrat... made no difference.

Every single one of them was an arrogant prick. Treated the staff and every one they met (except contributors) as scum. Just vassals meant to do the duty of The Great Elected Ones. And that's the House-- imagine the egos of Senators.

One of the NPR reporters (brain fart-- can't think of the name right now) was interviewed a few years ago. She said that when she workled for NBC, she followed a bunch of the candidates around for a few months. Apparently, back then they didn't embed teams with individual candidates. Anyway, after it was over, she said she completely lost her initial impressions and thoughts about the candidates and ended up hating them all. Familiarity doth breed contempt.

Bottom line here-- the sort of person who is going to go through the crap you have to go through to get elected is probably not always the nicest person around. Part of the rewards of winning is being in the center of power, and that would tend to reinforce whatever arrogance one already has.

Even your good ol' boy down home Presidents like Truman and Carter would hardly be recognized by the people they grew up with. Clinton, Reagan, Nixon?

Unfortunately, it seems we just gotta live with those imperial attitudes and concentrate on what they do, not how they appear.

31. How True
Power is usually the attraction, and power corrupts. But policy is the important issue. One of the things I liked about Clinton is that he managed to (at least in appearances) maintain his connection to ordinary people. Maybe it was an illusion, but if so, it was a good one.
