A Survey USA poll of 678 likely Tennessee voters conducted for WBIR TV in Knoxville between March 20 and March 22 shows that Bush now leads Kerry by 11 points, with 7% undecided.

some of the bigotry here is unfortunate, though I don't think its mean spirited. There are a lot of good people in Tennessee, a lot of good Democrats. TN may not be our best shot in 2004, but it can be very winnable.

Although there would be better places to spend our tight budget.

There are a number of metropolitan areas where we could work on a local level to get turnout up. If turnout in Dem strongholds is even a mere 5% higher than it is in GOP strongholds, our chances rise nicely.

Personal note.. I was an Ole Miss college student from 1996 to 2000, and Memphis was my urban refuge from rednecky Oxford. Such a nice, nice city to party and shop in! Plenty of intelligent folks can be found living there.

As a Yankee who moved south, I can tell you I wouldn't expect ANYTHING else! SC, AL, GA, MS, TN can't be converted. Believe me, the few Dems I met at the meetups all say the same thing....Thank goodness I'm not the only one!

If Al Gore couldn't take it, I say it's unwinnable for a northern Democrat. Contest Louisiana, Florida, Arkansas and Virginia.

12. Tennessee is probably a second tier state

A state you'd drop money on only if the battlegrounds are going your way. Also, it doesn't have a Senate race, so if you're trying to bump up the vote in a 2nd tier state you may go for a Senate state than Tennessee.

continue to amaze me. They have been some of the hardest hit by the shutting down of Manufacturing plants but since Bush talks like them they have to vote for him

They are usually not accurate, and they go up and down like a roller coaster. Tennessee has a large liberal contingent, and especially if a southerner is on the ticket, I think the state will be in play. don't count out Tennessee.

If Gore couldn't carry Tennessee against Bush then what chance does Kerry have? Luckily, Tennessee won't be a crucial state this year. The only southern state we should even worry about is Florida. We take Florida, and we'll take the presidency.
