My mother Thinks Edwards would make a great VP
Edited on Tue Mar-23-04 09:59 PM by corporatewhore
She predicted way back last summer that kerry would get the tickett liked him and wanted to help with his campaign (i stopped her by showing her Kucinich's Prayer for America and worked on DK's campaign with her)) any way after NH she began to look at edwards because of his energy charisma and the way he came off as an economic populist. She thinks he would make a good veep particularly because kerry comes off as boring and somewhat out of touch with the average person (she likes him though) and i think she has a crush on hir.I on the other hand couldnt care less anyway just thought id pass it along

1. Kerry is fighting the perception
of being weak on defense. Sorry but Edwards doesn't help him fight that. So he won't be the guy. I like him. He's the Senator of my state. But its just not going to be him.

3. Did you hear what corporatewhore's mom said?

I didn't hear anything about national security.

When so many are expressing the same opinion about Edwards and the ticket, it seems a little crazy to ignore them.

It's not like this is a minority opinion. 40% of the southern super tuesday voters want him to be VP. And we know that he does better as the voters get more moderate -- ie, with voters who didn't vote in the dem primaries.

A slavish devotion to filling the ticket with another person who's good on foreign policy (in an America in which fewer and fewer people even really care about foreign policy) seems strange to me, expecially when that would rule out Edwards and, if taken to its logical conclusion, would place, say, Henry Kissinger and George Schultz higher up the rankings.

5. I think if the Democrats want to lose they should run a ticket which
Edited on Tue Mar-23-04 10:17 PM by AP
says 'we think what happens on the other side of the globe -- the farthest point from where you stand today -- is more important than your job and your savings and your future."

I'm not saying that foreign policy has nothing to do with secure and wealthy futures. But that ticket better say SOMEWHERE "we care about middle class opportunity."

6. I wish Dems could push this argument more forcefully.
Talk to the folks in Ohio. Do they really think that the terrorists will target them, as opposed to D.C, NYC, etc? If anyone, it's the mega-metropolises that have targets painted on their backs - and they're still voting overwhelmingly in favor of the Democrats. That's a pretty good endorsement of our ability to keep people in these target cities safe.

Why are we not making this argument? It seems quite effective when I use it with my swing voter acquaintances.

8. Good point.
I never thought of it that way before, but I always do feel safer when I'm back home in OH than I do when I'm at school in DC.

That might be one of the reasons I heard from so many voters throughout the political spectrum in OH, "you know who I like? John Edwards."

15. How is getting shot in Vietnam and being a war hero weak?
Running two soldiers is overkill.

Bush cut funding after 911, for chrissakes!

The Pentagon can't find a trillion frickin' dollars from last year! It's never passed an audit!

Democrats will lose if they try to out-macho the PNAC nutballs.

Kerry's already a soldier, and needs to balance the ticket with a nonsoldier.

12. Kerry still has a much better chance with Edwards than your Mom...

sorry didn't mean that you or your mother were right specifically. Just that Kerry's only chance to win was with Edwards,
