Kerry Ends Vacation, Sets to Unite Party

By MIKE GLOVER
The Associated Press
Wednesday, March 24, 2004; 2:45 PM

KETCHUM, Idaho - Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry wrapped up his nearly weeklong vacation in Sun Valley on Wednesday and was flying back to Washington to accept a key union endorsement and rally former rival Howard Dean and other party leaders behind his candidacy.

The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees will endorse Kerry on Thursday in a meeting of the union's executive council, Democratic officials said. AFSCME, with 1.3 million members, is the second-largest union in the AFL-CIO.

Kerry is meeting privately Thursday with members of the Democratic National Committee, then speaking to the National Newspaper Publishers Association. He has a private meeting with Dean's congressional supporters and donors, then plans to accept Dean's endorsement during a rally at George Washington University, followed by the AFSCME endorsement.

<>In a message posted on the Web site for his new organization, Democracy For America, Dean urged his supporters to back Kerry's campaign. "The primary goal throughout my campaign was to send George Bush back to Texas," Dean wrote. "John Kerry shares this goal and is the only person with a chance of doing just that."

3. I disagree Larkspur
I think he timed this vacation just perfectly. Knew Clarke's book was coming out and 9-11 public hearings, he would not have gotten any coverage and also would should not take away from these 2 very important events. Also, its not Kerry bashing shrub, but he has had a very bad week!!!!!!!

4. I hope he doesn't do a dukakis and do it in the last two months
of the homestretch. I think the Duke's bad timing vacation wise killed his campaign. He was leading until just a couple of weeks before the election then he took a breather.

5. Kerry was very smart about his vacation
He took it when the heat was piling on him, now all that "scandals" the media tried to pin him with 2 weeks ago are forgot, Bush is hurting and he's refreshed.

Watch him get major news coverage cause he's been gone.
Very smart move, and good timing.

6. And he probably finished off reading Clarke's book, watched the
hearings, and was in touch with Wes Clark about all his appearances....
