Bush WMD Jokes: Is Kerry Now Free To Joke About Laura's Manslaughter
incident? After all, that only killed one old boyfriend of hers. How about this: "she stopped dating this one guy because he was letting himself get run down." Ha-ha-ha! The bushies are funny!

Or, maybe Kerry can make fun of Poppy Bush ditching his plane in the ocean during WWII. Oops, I forgot, you're not allowed to make fun of the bushes. OK. But can Kerry still make fun of all of Poppy Bush's aircrew members who drowned when Poppy abandoned them and saved his own sorry ass? Yeah, that's the ticket. Hey, I've even got the bush-approved punchline for that one: "so the crew is drowning, and the one guy looks at the other and says, 'well, that's one BAD pilot,' glug, glug." Ha-ha-ha! Ha-ha-ha! Those bushes are so funny!!

They're ghouls, I tell ya, ghouls.

Book unveils life of Laura Bush
( 2004-01-16 16:21) (Agencies)

Years before Laura Bush became the sunny, steadying, widely admired wife who inspired her husband to emerge from his father’s shadow and become a successful politician in his own right, Laura Bush, nee Welch, killed a boy.

She was 17 when she missed a stop sign outside her hometown of Midland, Texas, and plowed into a car driven by Michael Douglas, a high school classmate and close friend.

It was revealed in The Perfect Wife: The Life and Choices of Laura Bush written by Washington Post reporter Ann Gerhart. Gerhart, who describes the first lady in this first full-scale biography as an unpretentious woman who reluctantly got drawn into public life when she married.

According to the accident report, Laura was driving her Chevrolet sedan on a clear night shortly after 8 p.m. Nov. 6, 1963, when she drove into an intersection and struck a Corvair sedan driven by 17-year-old Michael Douglas.

2. Maybe these jokes could be told at the funerals of the the soldiers that
were killed. Maybe we can call it the "Funeral Circuit"!

6. Under no circumstances must the Dems sink to that level.
As tempting as it is to do so. Some things transcend politics. The emotions of those who've lost loved ones in violent ways certainly do.

FLASHBACK: KERRY JOKES ABOUT 'ASSASSINATIONS'
Thu Mar 25 2004 17:45:05 ET

Dem presidential candidate John Kerry lashed out at President Bush over self-deprecating jokes made at this year's Radio and Television Correspondents' Dinner.

But Kerry himself has had trouble with pushing the humor envelope.

"Somebody told me the other day that the Secret Service has orders that if George Bush is shot, they're to shoot Quayle," Kerry joked in 1988. The Massachusetts Democrat then said, "There isn't any press here, is there?"

14. nothing funny about assassination
It was totally out of line on Kerry's part, and it negates what could have been a good issue to hammer Bush on. Now, if the democrats try to attack Bush over his WMD comment, the White House will simply pull out Kerry's comment about assassinating the vice president. What's worse, that assassination meeting Kerry attended in the 1970s is starting to get more traction. Why in the hell did the democrats pick a sure loser like Kerry? Goddamn it, Bush needs to go and it will NEVER happen if Kerry is on the ticket!!!

15. Kerry can try the rethug defense:
"It was OK to joke about assassinations back then, but now that 9/11 has *changed everything,* it's not OK to joke about WMDs. My joke was pre-9/11, so it's OK. W's joke was post-9/11, so it's bad, bad!! (oops, slipped into Poppy bush speak there at the end)"

Edited on Fri Mar-26-04 12:17 PM by mzmolly
Rethugs *who obviously haven't a real issue to stand on* will try to make a case.

Might I suggest that sending a nation into a war based on lies, and joking about the deaths of Americans (who actually perished in said war) is far greater f**k up, then joking about Quail(e) who is *cough* alive.

Had Quail actually been shot-e, you might have a point.

20. The difference is that
Quayl is alive and well and never came to any harm. There is a BIG diffence in joking about dead people when you bare responsibility for putting them in the grave. Kerry's joke probably wasn't the most tasteful but there were many many jokes going around about Quayl at the time, he was such a doofus and was the butt of comedians continually.

24. And just who are you to criticize Kerry?
Bush* has committed so many crimes against humanity it's disgusting. He should be in the ICC, were it not for the fact that his cabal had the forsight to abstain from participation in that institution.

I WONDER WHY - NOT.

18. When this was mentioned earlier,
the poster noted that this appeared at Drudge's site, with a reference from World Net Daily, but that s/he could not find it by googling.

Has anyone confirmed that this is an actual Kerry comment?

19. I don't know that Kerry said it but
it was a fairly popular joke circulating around that time, as were other Quayle jokes. I know I heard it from several people.

21. Was it manslaughter or murder?
She and Michael had been engaged. Did she have reason to want to be rid of him? These are questions to which others would be subjected under the same circumstances. Why should she get a free pass?
