Kerry's speeches behind a podium suck
However, when he's holding the microphone and able to move around a stage he's great. He moves like an athlete, graceful. And his voice has life and inflection.

But get him behind a podium, in a formal setting especially, and he's a droner...at least from what I've seen.

12. Learning? He's been giving speeches for years - debate
champ at Yale. He's not a tent politician.

19. Kerry gives a speech from a podium, you don't watch it, and then
criticize his delivery? :wtf:

21. Simmer down yourself. It is bogus to criticize something you didn't see.
You claim: "I've seen many others".

So exactly which performance is it that you are criticizing and how is it relevant to the campaign today?

It's like complaining that a baseball player always strikes out, just after he hits a home run, and then when challenged, saying, "I've seen him strike out many times" :eyes:

23. Your 'generalities' consist of nothing but meaningless smears.

To review:
Kerry stands behind a podium and gives a speech,
a few minutes after he is done, you post a thread entitled "Kerry's speeches behind a podium suck" --
and now we find out you didn't even watch the speech! :eyes:

So simmer down yourself.

3. Second.
He's MUCH better speaking before crowds with just a microphone instead of behind a podium. When he's President, he should be the first to take Press Conferences on an open stage.

4. I disagree 100%
I think he does great behind the podium. The speech he just gave was on-point, punchy, and short enough that CNN showed the whole thing.

In contrast, Bush can't get through 2 sentences without displaying his smirk.

6. It was MUCH better
But you have to admit he tends to get a little "Senatorial" behind a podium. And gads, I just can't listen to Bush. I don't know how you manage it!!

7. I think this country has been conditioned to the Good Old Boy speech
I personally am very glad that we now have someone who is running for president who is articulate, intelligent and commands respect just from his demeanor. I find it appalling that the repugs and spinners try to lable Kerry as unpresidential! (In comparison to what? Bubba? they must be joking)

30. He Doesn't Wander Off Message Behind the Podium
Although I think he can be dynamic in either forum, he does seem to stick his foot in his mouth more when he's in the town meeting format. Stay on script and he's super!

5. You're right
I once posted an "open comment" to Mary Beth Cahill on the Kerry forum. Any time a podium is in the vicinity of John Kerry, Marvin is to run at it with an axe and chop it into little pieces. (Marvin is JK's aide) He was alot better today than he has been, so if hopefully he'll keep improving and get as comfortable behind that podium as he is walking around the stage with a mic in his hand. Overall though, the speech today was pretty good. One other thing I noticed today is that he uses up all his good "campaign rhetoric" at the beginning of the speech. He needs a few zingers to leave people with at the end too.

8. His speech was excellent. Rumguy, who do you support for President?
Perhaps not Kerry? It is obvious that you are looking to discredit John Kerry. Your criticism is not constructive. I suggest you go to C-Span and watch the video of last night's DNC Unity Dinner, and get with the program. John Kerry is our nominee, and he is going to make a damn fine President of the United States.

Townhall meetings are the proper forum for what you suggest, and this was not such a forum.

10. Nothing wrong with honest criticism...
so long as it is honest.... I think his speeches need work; not for the faithful, for the crossovers.

11. Today was a serious economics speech
& I think it belongs behind a podium. His speech was much less Senatorial, & more punchy than any I've heard.

I think he is very effective without the podium, but it depends on the venue.

For a serious policy address, use the podium.

13. I disagree
John Kerry looks and sounds far more presidential than any recent politician I can think of, including Bill Clinton. He is an outstanding speaker; notice how he hardly ever stumbles or mangles his words. Bush, on the other hand, can't go two seconds without saying something stupid or sounding like a retard. I can't wait for the debates! Bring. It. On.

16. I thought he looked awesome
behind the podium, and his speach was great. Husband and I sat speachless, powerful, he is going to be a president this country really needs right now! I think he intends to stay above the fray and speak to the issues, puts him way above the chimp. This is going to be interesting to watch * sink like a rock!

27. One upside of a long campaign is that Kerry has time to tweak his style...
here and there, as needed. As he goes, he'll discover what's working and what falls short, and make adjustments accordingly.

As long as he stays out in front of *, then that's the desired result.

earth. He's got time though. There's just a little bit of a disconnected feeling. :hi:
