2. I met the man several times..
..while working for the party in Iowa. He's an affable enough fellow and a shrewd politician. I think there are better choices from an electoral standpoint, however.

5. Vilsack could harm Kerry in Iowa, according to a November poll...
"John Kerry offers another tight match with the President. He loses by one point. And once again, Vilsack on the ticket hurts. Kerry drops a point. The Vilsack factor's a minus two. "

6. He's a decent guy, but he doesn't bring anything extra to the ticket.
Several someone elses would bring more to the table.

7. The "education governor" wrings his hands as the legislatur decimates the
universities here. Why won't he stand up for public education? Sure he is articulate, but he has been a big dissappointment to this Iowan.

8. Not a known household name.
Kerry needs a "name" like Clark or Edwards, for example.
