After reading the tenor of the posts here yet again tonight ...
... can I ask what would seem to be an obvious question:

"No matter who you support, what you say about them, and what you say against the other candidate, do you honestly believe you're going to change anyone's mind at this point in the process?"

Just wonderin' ...

1. Bingo! I think in many cases we're venting, and that serves it's own purpose.

4. Well, that would have been my first thought ...
... and the most logical response.

But there seem to be people here who actually believe that they're going to 'convert' someone at the last minute, before they completely succumb to the evil of supporting the 'other candidate'.

I sometimes feel like I'm caught between two revival meetings ...

Even at this late hour, I remain undecided. I have until about this time tomorrow morning to make up my mind.

... and the Politics of Candor sums it up perfectly.

I love that look she gets on her face when she's being interviewed - that look that says, "Oh, no, you din't ask that dumb a question, did you?"

7. Nah - My party will go with the corporate tax cut/regulation remover promises don't cost money if
don't intend to use political muscle to get them through congress, women smarter than he is with more steel for political combat and getting a program for the left enacted are to be ridiculed, our 21 st century Obama and his "hope" with near zero past political accomplishments yo back it up -

- and not a damn thing I can do other than forget the race for President and work for down ticket Dems

At least the AA Dems will not feel put upon by a non black women being nominated.

I've rung door bells every election for decades for our guy for president - and have walked the blocks for Jesse in 84 in the primary (in 88 I was for the Duke)- but this election I will not be doing so for this arrogant con artist.

11. I Understand That It's Very Unlikely...
...to change people's minds; but I think that it's worth the effort. The worst that can happen is nothing. And the possbile (albeit unlikely) reward of convincing others to vote for Hillary outweighs the risk of nothing happening, IMHO.

We didn't change each others' minds - but then, we didn't expect to!

May the best candidate win, whichever candidate that turns out to be - and neither of them are too shoddy, are they?

17. I think what happens is,
Something like this periodically hits the front page with 124 recs

"I’m done defending Hillary Clinton."

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x4844977

Often including a line about how they had come to their decision:

In all honesty, I didn’t believe it. Since when are the talking heads a source of all that is right and true in the world? But there were the clips and the transcripts. And most damming of all, were the posts I saw here from Hillary supporters.

Voila!

And the cycle begins anew.

20. In large part, it's a problem inherent in the medium itself
It's so one-dimensional. You type something, someone replies. They can't see your facial expressions or body language, nor can you see theirs. There only are words on a screen, and sometimes a little picture, with none of the visuals or auditory cues that are so important in human communications. So you type something, your words strike a chord in someone else, they reply, and no one feels "heard" or understood. And it's SO easy to keep coming at someone, because they aren't there in front of you, or on the other end of the phone, so they don't seem real.

Don't know how to make it any different...

24. Great observation ...
By not having access to visual clues like facial expressions and body language, it's easy to convince yourself that you are making an impact, you are getting through.

Thanks for that! Really insightful explanation for the 'phenomenon' we're all seeing here from 'both sides'.

29. You're welcome
There are many techniques that we all use unconsciously when we talk with others that establish rapport between the 2 parties and enriches communication. These techniques just aren't available in on-line communications, and it a detriment, often leaves both parties talking past each other.

When I used to hear the RWers talk about the "hate & vitriol" of the left-wing blogs, I didn't believe them. I thought about places like Free Republic and thought that Dems were different, more respectful, more caring. Sad to say, I can't dismiss it anymore when I hear RWers spout that condemnation.

28. My dear Nance...
I've learned long ago, through my own personal experience here on DU, that you do have an impact on others through just your words...

But that's really a separate issue from yours...

And I agree...

"Do you honestly believe you're going to change anyone's mind at this point in the process?"

Not at this late stage, nope!

But I guess some do think they can change your mind...

Or they'll damn well die trying!

37. Aside from that
What does fighting with other DUers all day accomplish? I see some who are really going at it who did the same back in 04. Males me wonder what they did in between primary seasons.

Sad. Considering how many campaigns could really use help, folks running for Congress and county commission and everything in between, good candidates.
