That kept him in check. Back then, the Dems passed laws explicitly forbidding Reagan from invading Nicaragua. That's why Ollie and McFarland had to sell arms to Iran to fund the Contras.

but I think some of you are being a tad rediculous. It's not like the country's going to blow up. I don't want Bush to win at all, but if he does... I'm pretty sure we'll live. I mean... the cons felt this way about Clinton's second term.

I think that the Republicans will not want to nominate a Senator or Representative because of the difficulties in defending a career of votes, but they will also want to continue to claim an advantage on the terrorism issue. Answer - Pataki or Giuliani.
