Monday's poll also showed that in addition to besting Beasley, Tenenbaum holds even stronger leads over the other two most likely Republican nominees. She leads former state Attorney General Charlie Condon 47 percent to 40 percent, and leads U.S. Rep. Jim DeMint 48 percent to 33 percent.
Among voters identifying themselves as Independents, Tenenbaum holds six-point leads over Beasley and Condon, and a 26-point lead over the lesser-known DeMint.
The poll also showed that Tenenbaum, South Carolina’s popular two-term State Superintendent of Education, is widely familiar to South Carolina voters and better-liked than any of the Republican candidates. Her current name recognition is 82 percent, compared with 88 percent for Beasley, 78 percent for Condon and 63 percent for DeMint. She received a 41 percent favorable rating from polled voters, compared with 39 percent for Beasley, 35 percent for Condon and 25 percent for DeMint
