9. An even better guarantee
Would be Bush/McCain, but I wouldn't vote for that ticket either. The "guaranteed victory" argument is a joke and symptomatic of unthinking minds. Some of us are interested in trying to secure a win for democratic principles and policies; I don't know what those who would vote for McCain are hoping to "win."

23. Women should give up their civil rights and vote for McCain?
Without women voters Gore would have lost in 2000.

Please remember that more women than men vote Democratic and millions of us do so because we are pro-having control of our own bodies.

I think McCain as a vp candidate would be a danger to Kerry. The so-called pro-life lobby has encouraged and made excuses for murderers of physicians already. What would some of their crazed element do if they thought they could sweep an anti-choice vp into the presidency?

If you're going to talk "moderate" Republicans, you can bring up Lincoln Chafee, Olympia Snowe, Chuck Hagel and Arlen Specter (not that I'd want any of them on the ticket).

But McCain is just about as RW as they come -- he's just not a dishonest asshole about it.

7. people seem to forget. . .
that Senator McCain was offered freedom by the North Vietnamese based on his military connections. He refused to take advantage of his superior status unless his fellow POW's were released as well.

He later in his wonderfully and most refreshing honest and self-deprecating way, said that he may have made a different decision had he known that it would have made the difference of years instead of days of incarceration.

In other words and in summation, he is a loyalist, and will never switch parties.

There is a treasure trove of viable candidates for kerry to choose from. I'll always have a soft spot for McCain but I don 't see him going for this.

28. Not to mention #1 recipient of media PAC money in the Senate
If McCain were to somehow become the VP nominee, there's an even smaller chance of media reform happening in the next four years. McCain is the largest recipient of Big Media money in the Senate-- and for all his populism, his voting record reflects that.

"JUST SAY NO" to putting a Republican on the Democratic party ticket.

26. McCain on the ticket
This won't happen... but let me say that, no matter what, the
country needs to change, and honesty is the way to start. Whatever
else you (and I) may dislike about him, McCain is an honest man.

I think he would help Kerry to get Bush out of office. We are behind
right now, and likely to be outspent by the Bushwackers 3 to 1. I've
done all that I can (I contributed $1000 so far, will try for another
come late summer).

If having McCain on the ticket were possible and would create a better
chance for victory this fall, it's important enough that we do it.

Not every republican is a lying piece of pond scum. Even quite a few
are worried about Bushco... Witness the critical books being written
by folks like Paul O'neill and Richard Clarke, neither of which are
likely to be registered card carrying liberals. We must succeed at
removing the neocons from power, the very future of the world may
well depend on this, certainly peace and prosperity for our future
does.

If having McCain on the ticket would make it happen (and I think it
would), then what's the issue? Is it that he is a republican? I
think that he is much more an American first (as we all should be).

In addition, even if Kerry/XXX wins in November, all we have to look
forward to is 4 more years of partisan bickering and little reform.
If we vote in a "split" ticket, it might actually embolden the "agree
to disagree, but let's do what's right" part of the republican party,
both in the house and senate, to break from the ideologues that have
captured the party.

But this is wishful thinking, I don't think McCain would do it. He
may still dream of running again in 2008... against Clinton. After
all, who would be the Bush chosen successor to Bush, Jeb? Doubt it.

29. welcome to DU
but keep in mind that money WILL NOT buy us this election.

Remember, Gore actually WON in 2000, and was outspent by $60 million! Yes, money does help with a campaign, but Democrats NEVER win by outspending Republicans.

How do Democrats win? By being on the right side of the issues: living wages for ALL workers, access to healthcare regardless of ability to pay, fair trade instead of "free trade", and an end to pre-emptive wars.

Right now, this election is the Democrats to lose. The Shrub Meltdown is continuing apace, now that the Dems have forced Condi to testify in public. The economy has not "recovered" for the average American. We are no safer from terrorism today than we were on 9/10/2001. And good-paying jobs of many types are now going overseas.

People in this country know something's wrong, they're just looking for a credible change. We, as Democrats, need to be that agent of change in November.

49. I used to respect McCain, but he's a sellout
It is true that not every republican is a lying piece of pond scum, but the bushes are -- and McCain knows it as well as anyone. For him to endorse him and stump for him after what the bush machine did to McCain in the primaries... well, it's unbelieveable.

I'd vote for a Kerry/McCain ticket over a Bush/Cheney ticket, but I sure as hell wouldn't be happy about it. That would be the end of the Democratic Party, not only for me but in general.

Bush's war was wrong, and every goddamned Democrat, Kerry included, should have opposed it from the beginning. So should the Republicans for that matter, but you would never find them opposing a war that their party started. There is absolutely no excuse for the appeasement of the so called party "leadership" to this fucking unelected dictator asshole, and Kerry has been very much an active participant in that. NOBODY who was involved in this sellout deserves to lead this party.

..are merely accepting what the mediawhores and the party mouthpieces are telling them without once questioning how it is that someone who has spent the last three years as a willing agent of the enemy is now supposed to be our "standard bearer". How can you bear a standard when you forgot the meaning of the word?

We simply should not have to settle for "slightly less horrible than Bush". And I guarantee you that if Kerry actually manages to pull this thing off (which won't be likely since the DLC is playing to LOSE ) I will be much harder on him than I ever was on Bush, because I EXPECTED Bush to fuck up. And he exceeded those expectations farther than I ever imagined possible.

44. Here's proof of "sheeple"
70% of the people believe Saddam Hussein was involved in 9-11.

48% of voters actually thought a moronic drunken cowardly coke addict who never worked a day in his life would make a good President - and then they believed it when they were told the Supreme Court decided outcome was "fair and square".

Even worse was those who didn't vote for the son of a bitch, but saw nothing at all wrong with the election being blatantly STOLEN even after further evidence emerged about what Jeb & Kate did before the date of the election.

Yeah, there are a lot of uninformed, gullible people out there. And they aren't all Repukes.

How can I say this nicely? Maybe some of you McCain lovers have just recently become Democrats, maybe some of you are trolls; I don't know. But understand this: We Democrats are not going to let you swing our party any more to the right, and no republican is going to be chosen as John Kerry's VP.

You McCain lovers are an embarrassment to me and the Democratic party.

50. Gore and 2000
And I just bet that you were (ARE) one of those "There isn't any
difference between Bush and Gore" folks in 2000. So vote for
Nader and the Greens (BTW, I AM new to the Democratic party, I *USED*
to be a registered Green party member, I resigned that shortly after
the election was stolen... but Nader and the Greens AND people who
think like you, they ENABLED the repukes to steal that election).
I voted for Gore.

I want to win this one and remove Bushco. I'll do
ANYTHING if it will work.

Personally, I happen to know quite a number of moderate republicans
who voted and worked for McCain in 2000. They don't like Bushco,
but they won't vote for Kerry. You say "fine" we don't need them...
because WE want to be right... better to be pure and out of power
than make any deals with anyone that labels themselves "republican".

I guess you really like ranting on blogs and message boards,
cause that is all we are going to get to do for a long time.

BTW, I hope you are wrong, and I won't adopt the attitude of many
I've seen on this thread... the "my way or not at all". I'm voting
for Kerry/XXX no matter what. I just hope that the dems can pick
SOMEONE that will help with votes from the middle... and that you
and all of the party purists out there, will vote Kerry/XXX too.

Remember the Dean pledge! He did it and had all the other candidates
join him... but only because he thought he would win the nomination.
But we really DO need that pledge.

What the freepers are cheering about is watching us argue about how
"pure" our candidate(s) are.

Sigh.
