"No one died because of Watergate"
Salon interview with John Dean. Compares bush to nixon. Bush much worse. "Too many have died (and many in the future may) because of the abuses of power by this presidency." A very chilling read. Republicans must be proud that bush is making nixon look good.

1. true
unfortunately, "No one died because of Watergate" is not synonymous with "no one died because of Nixon" -- see Cambodia

4. I lived in Ohio at the time, and I think we have to blame the governor
for that one. Of course, he was friends with Nixon.

6. Nixon is responsible for many more deaths
Nixon prolonged, and in some ways, escalated the Vietnam War. After running on a plan for peace, he initiated massive bombing of the North and neighboring countries.

His actions killed countless thousands of people throughout Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos, not to mention the American soldiers killed during his administration.

Nixon was never held accountable for what I contend were war crimes. The American people tolerated the continuation of the war despite the wrneching effects it had here at home.

In fact Nixon was rewarded for his actions, coasting to a landslide victory in 1972.

While some of Nixon's domestic policies seem liberal in comparison to Republican policies of today, he manipulated the war for political gain, employed the media to destroy his political opposition, and enjoyed the support of the American people while doing so.

3. I've been thinking the same thing.
I feel nostalgic for the past. Chimp makes Nixon look like a kind, well-meaning statesman. He makes Ronnie look positively benevolent!

Maybe this is PNAC's secret mission. Restore the reputations of formerly dissed Republican presidents by giving us one so bad, the rest look good in comparison.

7. Add Vietnam, too.
Nixon was responsible for the deaths of thousands of people. Bush is res[ponsible for the deaths of thousands of people. Thus, it is best to connect them, rather than contrast them. Having said that, I will add that Nixon had some okay qualities. I can not say that about bush.
