McCainocrats vs. Obamacans?
Regarding the crossover votes, this article quotes info from the Pew Research (emphasis added):

And contrary to conventional wisdom, numbers emerging from polls and primary results show that Sen. John McCain - who has alienated conservatives as he courts independents and moderate Democrats - holds an advantage over Sen. Barack Obama in the race for crossover votes.
There are now more McCainocrats than Obamacans - about 14 percent of Democrats say they would vote for Mr. McCain today instead of Mr. Obama, but just 8 percent of Republicans say they would vote for the Illinois Democrat, according to a Pew Research Center survey on Feb. 28.

Additionally, 20 percent of white Democratic voters say they would defect to Mr. McCain if Mr. Obama is the Democratic Party's nominee - twice the number who would cross over if Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton wins the nomination, Pew found.
"McCain poses a clear and present danger to Obama in that he draws Democrat base support in historic numbers," said Republican strategist Scott Reed.

"If it is a McCain-Obama match up, you could see McCain picking up 'Reagan Democrats' and Obama picking up Republicans who oppose the war in Iraq," she said.
Pollster John Zogby agreed, saying both candidates are successfully wooing crossover voters.

"There are clearly Republicans behind Obama and I'm convinced there will continue to be," he said. But he acknowledged that as the Democratic race drags on, Mr. Obama is endangering that crossover vote by moving to the left to defeat Mrs Clinton.
"For Obama, one of things Republicans will use, in addition to lack of experience, is that he moved so far left, is left wing," Mr. Zogby said.

The longer the primary goes on, the farther left Obama goes, the better for McCain.

2. Why the fuck would Hillary supporters defect to McCain if Obama's the nominee?
What the fuck is wrong with people? Yeah, why don't you put my mother's medicare at risk because your candidate lost. Boo fucking hoo. Anyone who does that is an asshole. For the record, I'm an Obama supporter but would GLADLY support Clinton if she were to win the nomination.

4. No matter how we see things, the base voters (Democrats)
see her as having experience. This is important to them.
They go to McCain for this reason.

12. Being hitched to a Pres. does not make for experience...

I guess Babs and Laura Bush are "experienced" enough to be Pres.

Abraham Lincoln only had two years in Congress!

3. Being a fake democrat like....
a certain DLC leader. who shall remain nameless, is better?

This country is looking at economic collapse. If some racists who call themselves democrats want to fuck up the nation and elect McCain, let 'em. This nation will end up with what it asks for.

7. After 8 years of being called "unpatriotic" by Bush, maybe they don't
look forward to another 4 or 8 being called "racist" and "fake democrats" because they disagree with your guy.

I bet that has something to do with it.

16. Have you looked at the 1980 and 1984 election maps?
Reagan did not win a landslide election in both of those years on Republican only votes.

open your mind, this country is not so far left or right, the majority are in the center.

11. It's the Republicans who should be worried about that
Edited on Fri Mar-07-08 09:38 PM by blogslut
Democrats have voted in record numbers for this primary. Republicans might gain 20% of disillusioned Clinton Democrats but they can't gain on the solid 70% of this country that is ready for change.

19. Obama has said that Hillary supporters would
vote for him should he be the nominee. He was very presumptuous about it, and as a result many in the base probably think he takes them for granted. Also, Obama has tried so hard to get republican and indie voters that he does not speak to the base as frequently as Hillary does. In other words, he is not speaking about the issues that matter to base democrats.

21. He doesn't draw as many indies as McCain either
that is going to be needed, and the farther left he has to go, the less appeal he has to them.
