Deaniacs converting to Kerry at MeetUp
Edited on Fri Dec-19-03 12:57 AM by zulchzulu
I just got back from a Kerry MeetUp where 10 people who supported Dean are coming to their senses and going for a real candidate.

One person cried at wondering what she was thinking...the killer story for her about Dean was the Enron in Vermont story and the Saddam capture and "hearing Dean's lame response". She sid she had it with his arrogance and is scared that he'll get the nomination and will lose and Roe vs. Wade would go away due to Bush appointing at least two SCOTUS justices.

She had gone to the recent Dean MeetUp and was disgusted by the cultish close-mindedness.

Those were her words.

And where? How many people were there? I've never been to a Kerry Meetup.

33. The meetup was in a midwestern college town
There were about 50 people there.

I'm not a huge fan of MeetUp; I think it's fairly lousy groupware and a bit spammy as well...

Has anyone noticed their spam increasing since they signed up for MeetUp? Yeah, this is a possible other topic thread, but...

Todd was so upset about having been for Dean and suddenly seeing that he was so wrong. We gave him some Kerry literature about health care and he was distracted and calm.

Susan was worried about all the money she had spent on the Dean campaign and Doug calmed her down and recited some Kerry quotes that soothed her. They left together.

3. the enron thing is a kerry lie.......
besides, Dean was doing his job as governor by bringing in businesses, jobs, and revenue into his state. Enron was just one of those companies that set up captive insurance----besides, no one really knew what Enron was up to back then.

8. Dean was hangin' with the Enron fellas, dude
Once again, Dean has no leg to stand on dissing Bush for being a bud with Kenny Lay and Enron.

Ho Ho was doing the same thing.

The truth hurts, don't it...

52. No... Enron owned some businesses in Vermont...
Edited on Fri Dec-19-03 03:01 AM by TLM

but then they owned business interests in a lot of states.

The fact is that the law which attracted them was already in place... and back in 95-96 Enron was just another big energy company as far as most people knew.

And Dean was NOT doing the "same thing" with enron as Bush. Bush gave his pals at enron huge tax breaks that created a huge deficit... but Dean balanced VT's budget every year. Dean was not the one who passed the tax breaks that attracted these companies so the idea that he was doing them favors like Bush did for enron, is wrong.

32. Well, you are the exception
I haven't followed your input. If you mean what you say, then I apologize profusely.

Perhaps I'm being a little heavy-handed, but it seems the trend with Dean fans is to be pretty nasty to those that think he is not the person to best beat Bush.

I'm not about to waste my time drudging up threads where the evidence lays. I have better things to do.

36. I'm not trolling for a personal apology
I'm trying to point out that there are many complimentary things said about candidates by supporters of other candidates. The negative stuff just sticks out more. It's not such a good idea to generalize so much. Only ONE of these candidates will win the nomination. If it's not my candidate, I'm going to have to find a way to vote for the winner and still live with myself. So I'm not making incontrovertible and damning statements about the other candidates. I'll give them a little grief, yeah, and I'll put up a spirited defense of my candidate. But I realistically have to be ready to back the other guy, which means, among other things, that I can't claim that he and his supporters are Satan reincarnate.

Thank you.

I only take the time to argue with those that say that they will not vote for the nominee, if it is not someone they supported, or people that want to vote for Nader. Why are you lying about me? I am constantly giving people props when their candidate does or says something cool. ABB, look into it.

everyone needs to support their candidate of choice, but it is stupid to put down another democrat. You may be right in your criticism, but it is wise to keep that to yourself. Well, unless you don't mind stupid bush having four more years to destroy us. Sometimes there are some democrats who are just too stupid. Their hearts are in the right place, but their mouths are full of stupidity.
