Randi Rhodes: "75% chance Hillary will switch to Independent to Siphon Obama votes..."
(I'm pretty sure I made that an exact quote, though a word or two may be off in the five minutes since I heard this in the car and sign on...)

Thought this would be an interesting topic for discussion. I had never considered the possiblity of this, and wouldn't agree with, at least as high a percentage. The Clintons are just such a party institution that I can't see this happening at least without a great amount of Sound and Fury (appended with the next line from MacBeth here--my own speculative sardonics there ;) )

And it sure as Hell hasn't hurt Lieberman's support base -- even though I wasn't particularly happy that he did it.

33. That won't happen either. A joint ticket is out the window after this primary.....
Obama said at the beginning of the primary season, reinforced by something I heard Michelle say, that Barack will not take a VP slot no matter who the nominee is. Most of it is family issues concerning their children's ages.

Hillary's ego will not allow her to take the VP slot.

27. Agreed, and here is why.....
Hillary will do anything to become President, but she won't leave the party directly after the primary season. If anything, I would give it a 50-50 chance, if Barack takes the nomination, that the DLC will break ties with DNC and create their own party for 2012.

There hope will be to take the center ground and take votes from both parties, with most coming from the Democrats.

That said, I disagree with Randi. I think it's unlikely Clinton would run as an independent. She'd surely lose her Senate seat and become a pariah. Pretty much the only nice thing I can say about Hillary Clinton is that she's not stupid.

54. Agreed 100%. . . and Randi Rhodes is spot on.
Hillary's pro-Republican voting as a Senator has been the red flag.

Hillary's already half way there--being Independent--anyway as the DLC conservative that she has become.

And her supporters are, for the most part, the same type of conservative Democrat.

Just examine her PUBLIC VOTING RECORD.

Going Independent is just Plan B, since Plan A is winning the 2008 nomination, which she knows she can't accomplish.

As for Randi Rhodes, I believe she has MUCH research she is sitting on to make her suggest a Hillary's Independent Plan B, like Lieberman's.

Randi fired the first volley today. Wait and watch as she does before she fires again.

Randi does not take part in circular-firing spinmeistering. She knows her shit BEFORE making her prognostications.

that comment seems just a TAD silly, with a TWIST of ridiculous. (And by tad, of course, I mean A LOT) But it brings up a funny question...

IF, in theory, Hillary did this (and I think there is about a 0% chance, myself), would that automatically switch her Senate seat to independent? Or are the two independent (for lack of another, or better, word) of each other?

If she cannot have the nomination, she'll dirty Obama up so bad that by the time the General Election comes around, McCain will win and she'll be back for 2012.

I'm not saying Randi doesn't make great points, but her job is not to speak truth to power: her job is to sell stuff to you. How does she do this? By saying things like this so you'll get worked up, listen, tell your friends to get worked up and listen, and buy gold, or use Binder & Binder, or whatever else she's shilling for this week.

The Idea Hit Me About the Time Obama Did His 11 State Streak, Even Called Hillary HQ to Suggest It!

I intend to vote for Hillary even if I have to write her in, so I can feel good about my vote.

That I am voting for the candidate I believe in.

My sister and 4 daughters will do the same.

I'm a Dem to the end, but that doesn't stop me from having a brain, and Barack Obama is the end of this country as we know it, imo.

Bush has destroyed so much of this country and Obama will drop on the last handful of dirt...

I asked my sister if she thought Hillary would go for it, the Independent thing...

And she said, No. Hillary is such a soldier and will stay a soldier to the democratic Party to the end.

So I called HQ back and told them to let her know she didn't have to be a soldier.

50. Does any one political party own you?
Definitely not me. I've been a voting democrat for 35 yrs. I vote that way because I believe they more closely represent the way I feel than others do. When that opinion changes to another party, I will go there. No if, ands, or buts.

Hillary used to be a republican, but she has been a loyal democrat for many years now. I can only assume she feels the same as I do and many of you, also. I am a fiscal conservative and social liberal, except I am hard on crime, pro-death penalty.

I don't think her political ideology has changed enough to make her consider changing parties.....yet. I am really looking forward to seeing what the democrats can do with a president who is agreeable and intelligent, as opposed to...........well, you know.

I am holding them to a high standard. I expect them to produce.

If they fail, and I feel betrayed by their actions, I'm a free agent, baby!

throwing Democrats under the bus, left and right. Why not throw the whole party under the bus? Whatever it takes.

68. I didnt hear that one
Ive considered the idea. I dont think so some how. It would be a lose lose proposition. I dont care what she does, the Pubs are not going to welcome her into the fold. And that would be a huge betrayal on the dem side of things. She might maintain a small base of support, but I think that most dems would drop her like a hot potatoe.

So.. she might pull enough support to ruin Obama's run, but probably not enough to defeat Ron Paul. And it would kill any future chance she might have for higher office. She is not a lieberman, in that the pubs arent going to back her up if she loses the dems.

When has anyone called a Clinton supporter 'racist' simply for supporting Clinton?

Please show an example.

This reminds me why I really haven't missed Air America in Austin being replaced by Tejano music. If I want something insanely stupid I can always find it on DU. I don't need to listen to it in my car.

94. I definately see it.
She will do anything to be president, and to prevent Obama from being Pres. I completely see her going third party in the GE. She has the money - been collecting donations for the GE in addition to primary since the beginning.
