The Religous Catch 22
What strikes me as odd about the debate the last few days is this: I am an agnostic. I believe in God but I do not believe in organized religion. I have never found a man (or woman) of the cloth who didn’t strike me as somewhat detached from reality, nor have I found a church that I didn’t in some way find offensive in their dogma.

Because of this I could never be a serious candidate for public office in the US, but how do you balance the two – if I avoid churches altogether I am disqualified from national politics so, if I really wanted to run for office I would have to find a church that I agreed with all the time and there aren’t any.

2. Start your own.
If you found your future wasn't in politics, all is not lost, there are big bucks in religion!

I'm afraid I'm not nearly sanctimonious or judgemental enough.

4. I realize that this is unpopular on DU
but.....if you believe in God then you go to a church to worship Him. The pastor/preacher is only a mouthpiece. They are HUMAN. They are not perfect. You are never going to find a church with a leader that is completley perfect. It isn't going to happen. You have to have a strong faith, and belief in God (which ever one you choose).

Currently I go to a Baptist church. A small family church with only about 50 members. It is a black church. The pastor is my husband's ex father in law (they weren't actually married but it is easier to explain by saying in law than baby's mom's dad). We are currently in a CPS battle with the bio mom. Our pastor is obviously on the other side from us. We are still attending this church even though we have been at odds with the pastor and his family.

I go to God's house to see God, if I wanted to see my pastor I would go to his house.

5. No,No, not that unpopular.
Congrats on finding a church that fills your needs.

I was joking, and thinking of L Ron Hubbard and one of his quotes before he created the Church of Scientology.
