If Kerry's wife is going to be an issue...
then are the trashy antics of Bush's daughters and their cousins be fair game?

I have mixed feelings about dragging candidates' families into campaigns, especially kids. And I will admit to having done my share of drinking when I was the age of the Bush twins (though I never had the privilege of sending the Secret Service to bail out my drunk friends).

Still, I can't help but think, given past experience, that the only good way to respond to a Republican attack is to hit back twice as hard. It's the only thing thugs like Bush and Rove understand. Yet there is also something creepy about letting Bush and Rove be one's moral compass.

This is a tough one. What do you think?

Teresa Heinz is far better than her spouse to be President were it not for that stupid provision of "natural born" citizenship.

Women are better than their men for higher political office!

In a poignant message on the aftermath of September 11, Teresa Heinz spoke about her own sense of mission:

There is a saying in my native Portuguese that translates roughly as, “God writes straight on twisted lines.”

It expresses the hope that human suffering and confusion are not pointless. There is meaning in tragedy and chaos, it suggests; and good may come from even the most brutal acts of evil…. What good, what meaning, could possibly be found here?

There are probably at least as many answers to those questions as there are people to ask them. For The Heinz Endowments, though, at least part of the answer lies in a compelling reminder of why we do what we do.

2. If they attack Teresa, why not attack Laura?
I don't know if we've ever had a First Lady responsible for anybody's death. Let alone the death of a former boyfriend. If the repugs insist on mud wrestling, then let the mud fly!

4. Have you looked at Laura Bush lately?
She doesn't even look like she knows where she is! I've never seen a more vacant stare on a woman in my life!

5. She reminds me of Betty Ford.
The same vacant, brittle quality. Of course, at the time we didn't know what was making poor Betty act that way.

6. Teresa will be an "issue" , a POSITIVE ONE
kerry's wife can only help him as everyone she meets with loves her. teresa campaigned a lot for kerry in the primary and met with many people, at some of the rallies, you see signs that say "i love teresa". i remember kerry was at a town hall meeting once and someone yelled to him "we love your wife" and he smiled and said "i love her too". i read once about someone who was doing some repair type work in her home when she was married to her first husband and they said as rich as she was and married to a senator, she was also one of the kindest people he ever met.
