NY Times says Obama campaign provided them with Clinton/Wright photo
"In providing the photograph to The New York Times, the Obama campaign appeared to be trying to divert some attention to the Clintons after a week in which Mr. Obama’s relationship with Mr. Wright has left him facing one of the biggest challenges of his campaign."

http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/03/20/photograph-of-bill-clinton-and-rev-wright-surfaces/

"Responding to the Times's report that Obama campaign had "provided" them a photo of Bill Clinton and Jeremiah Wright (which had surfaced a bit earlier here and elsewhere) , Clinton spokesman Jay Carson emails:

"The Obama campaign put this photo out? How pathetic," he said. "Less than 48 hours after calling for a high-minded conversation on race, the Obama campaign is peddling photos of an occasion when President Clinton shook hands with Rev. Wright. To be clear, President Clinton took tens of thousands of photos during his 8 years as president."

after all. He was invited to the White House to pray with the President.

to the clinton campaign trying to poach his super delegates based on the wright issue. call them on their hypocrisy i say. bring up the Lewinsky affair in the meantime as a result. its no less than what she deserves for the campaign she's running.

Wonder who invited the pastor, Hillary or Bill or their staff?

Main thing is - this "issue" won't help Billary win over the super delegates any more.

103. speaking of "low blows", pastor was at Bill's "repentence" ceremony
The recent coverage of Rev. Jeremiah Wright has often cast him as a marginal,
almost fringe figure, but Trinity Church is a major Chicago institution,
and Wright has long been a prominent pastor on the American scene.

And an anonymous blog set up to defend his church offers some compelling photographic evidence of this:
A photograph of Wright and President Clinton, which it says was taken on September 11, 1998 --
the date of a White House gathering for religious leaders.

Hillary Clinton, according to her recently-released schedule for the day, was present at the gathering.

That's where Clinton reportedly told the assembled clerics, at the depth of the Monica Lewinsky scandal, that he had "repented."

154. Why? What's wrong with looking for it and then providing that photo?
I don't get it. What's wrong with that? Sure, it helps him and doesn't exactly help his opponent, but it's not an evil thing to do. He didn't hack a computer or create false evidence of anything. In fact, it's not evidence of any wrongdoing.

It just shows that Wright was vetted and invited to the Clinton White House. Regardless of who was President, Obama's campaign HAD to provide the photo on his own behalf, to show that Wright is apparently not an evildoer, since he's acceptable in the highest office in the land.

If his campaign had not provided that photo, they wouldn't be running a good campaign, I'd say.

Whether the story is true or not is irrelevant. If it's true, their strategy didn't work, because Drudge has done nothing but aggressively try to destroy Hillary.

The Drudge Report warms to the Clinton camp, or is it vice versa?
By Jim Rutenberg
Published: October 22, 2007
http://www.iht.com/articles/2007/10/22/america/drudge.1-156891.php?page=2

WASHINGTON: As Senator Barack Obama prepared to give a major speech on Iraq one morning a few weeks ago, a flashing-red siren alert went up on the Drudge Report Web site. It read, "Queen of the Quarter: Hillary Crushes Obama in Surprise Fund-Raising Surge," and, "$27 Million, Sources Tell Drudge Report."

Within minutes, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton's fund-raising success was injected via Drudge into the day's political news on the Internet and cable television. It did not halt coverage of Obama's speech or his criticism of her vote to authorize the war in 2002, but along the front lines of the campaign - the hourly, intensely fought effort to capture the news cycle or deny ownership of it to the other side - it was a telling assault.

Clinton's aides declined to discuss how the Drudge Report got access to her latest fund-raising figures nearly 20 minutes before the official announcement went to supporters. But it was a prime example of a development that has surprised much of the political world: Clinton is learning to play nice with the Drudge Report and the powerful, elusive and conservative-leaning man behind it
---------------------
Clinton's communications team, led by Howard Wolfson, is not leaving Drudge to the Republicans. Five current and former Democratic officials said Clinton has on her side the closest thing her party has ever had to Rhoades in Tracy Sefl, a former Democratic National Committee official. The officials said that Sefl had established a friendly relationship with Drudge and that Clinton's campaign often worked quietly through her to open a line of communication with Drudge.

Though liberals say Drudge's ideological imbalance remains plain, Republicans, who viewed the site as theirs in campaigns past, say they are noticing what they believe to be more Democratic driven, often Clinton driven, items on it.

And, as New York magazine reported recently, it has escaped no one that Drudge has sometimes mentioned Clinton favorably on his syndicated radio program, even if no one really knows whether his comments reflect admiration for her or simply a recognition that keeping her in the news is good for his business.

150. Drudge doesn't support Obama--his job is to attack the Clintons
Short memory? During the 8 years of Clinton scandals during the WJC administration, Richard Mellon Scaife was the "Secret Santa" that helped many little "elves." Matt Drudge was supported by Scaife and Scaife's other Scaife Foundation recipients, as was Larry Klayman.

Scaife spent millions on groups to attack the Clintons, and I'm sure, once the foundations publish their data, we'll see he's fired up the ol' machine again.

Bill Clinton invites a chorus of African-American preachers to the "Lewinsky Penance Tour" (be honest with yourselves) and nobody in that mighty Clinton Dream Machine Team remembers inviting the shepherd of the 7,000-member Trinity congregation??

Before dispathing surrogates to argue "Obama's not electable because he's tied to Wright" case to superdelegates?

Really? Isn't this a little politically tone-deaf of the Mighty Clinton Unstoppable Political Machine?

91. Context matters.
I'll give you the Rezko photo with the Clintons, but did they ever send him a thank-you note for posing in a photo with them?

This was during the very, very well-remembered Prayer Breakfast where Clinton paid penance for the Lewinsky transgression. "I have repented," he told the gathered guests, each of whom was carefully chosen.

This isn't some random photo-op.

Bill threw himself into the arms of supporters (like me) and the African-American community.

This wasn't just any event. This was one of the most momentous events of his Presidency.

The photo doesn't incriminate Bill Clinton. It shows that this Wright nonsense is over-the-top.

The September 11, 1998 occurrence was a prayer meeting, with Rev. Gerald Mann as the guest minister. Bill Clinton gave a powerful prayer asking for forgiveness, and wrote a thank you note to Wright for attending, as I'm sure he did everyone who attended, as Bill Clinton is known for such civilities.

Let everyone learn of how Bill Clinton spoke of repentance, and be made aware of the gracious thank you note, and remind everyone how Rev. Wright repaid Bill Clinton's kindness with an act of vulgar theatrics during a sermon.

Maybe Rev. Wright will shed some light on how he got invited. This should be interesting ...

Senator Obama has just all but demanded that Clinton keep this alive.

I doubt Hillary would want to get down into this, so she'll probably give it a pass. But she's certainly been provided an invitation.

"Ii is disappointing that the Obama campaign has admitted to distributing a photograph of my husband shaking hands with Pastor Wright. I don't know what implication they are seeking to pursue by dragging my family into their own mess, but I can assure you that when Pastor Wright was a guest at a White House event he did not take that opportunity to condemn America, or offer any of the other objectionable views that have been so widely aired of late. If he had, Bill would not have shaken his hand."

What Obama was trying to say in his speech is that there is more to Wright than what is continuously spewed over and over on the MSM.

The picture proves he was a more than just an average preacher, he was someone worthy of being invited to the White House and meeting the President.

122. A totally fair move in self-defense
The whole gist of this story is: how could Obama associate with such a person.

The fact that Jeremiah Wright was deemed important enough to invite to the White House on the day of the release of the Starr Report in order for Bill Clinton to atone and confess to, seems some small proof that this was a man considered important enough in Democratic circles to get the backing of. This wasn't a crowd of thousands. It was a fairly elite, chosen group of clergy (of all faiths).

It also puts the "black separatist, white hating" thing somewhat in perspective. He not only came to the white president's aid in his time of need, he got a thank you note for expressing support.

Lastly, the Clinton campaign has admitted to taking the Obama-Wright story to superdelegates to argue that he's not electable. Turnabout totally fair play here.

It's politics. It's not intended to incriminate Bill Clinton by "associating" him with Rev. Wright. The Obama camp is pointing out that during the deepest crisis of Clinton's presidency, he turned to Rev. Wright and others for a redemption prayer breakfast. The breakfast is fresh in my memory, and was big news as it happened.

If Wright had been preaching hate and damnation upon these United States for twenty years, why did Bill Clinton reach out to him? And why did Rev. Wright answer the call, to support his president, if he was such an America-Caucasian-Hater?

147. Less than 48 hours after calling for a high-minded conversation on race, the Obama

128. Dear Pastor Wright: You have my best wishes. Sincerely, Bill Clinton
It wasn't the first time the Clintons used the Black community but after what they just pulled with Trinity Church and all the race cards, there won't be a next time.

The wording of Mr. Clinton’s thank-you note to Mr. Wright, dated Oct. 28, 1998:

Dear Pastor Wright:

Thank you so much for your kind message.
I am touched by your prayers and by the many expressions of encouragement and support I have received from friends across our country.

You have my best wishes.

Sincerely,
Bill Clinton

132. It took 6 weeks for Bill Clinton to get his Thank You letters out.
That kind of diminishes Rev. Wright's association with to the Clintons as being a matter of import, doesn't it?

Personally, I think Thank You letters are a matter of civility, even if they do have a "boilerplate" text as this one does. I would surmise almost all the guests received fairly identical letters.

Curious: Did Rev. Wright ever send a letter thanking the Clintons for being gracious hosts? Did he give a sermon?

136. Bill obviously thought highly enough of Rev. Wright to include him
as a spiritual advisor in the Lewinsky matter. Everything you guys have thrown at Obama has come back to somehow bite you in the azz. Some people may be impressed by the Clintons win at any cost strategy, but not all of us appreciate their tactics. Apparently, the Clintons at one time, had respect for Rev. Wright until they decided to use him to take out Obama.

They grow more disgusting with each passing day.

142. Rev. Wright was part of a coterie of individuals gathered at a prayer breakfast.
If Clinton had any respect for the man at the time, it was based on a mistaken impression, that's for certain.

141. Gracious host? They're more like bloodsuckers of the Black Community
Edited on Fri Mar-21-08 12:42 AM by Catherina
We've had our fill of their race politics and lies.

Watch that video again. When Wright said "He did the same thing to us that he did to Monica Lewinsky" try to count the number of Black and White people who jumped up and cheered.

No thank you letter needed. The favor was from Wright to Clinton to help that asshole who was pretending to repent because he'd been caught. Or are you implying Wright should have been gushing with gratitude at being invited to the big white House?

Gracious hosts?

137. Here's one of many reasons I probably wouldn't vote for
Hillary in the GE. I can't stand her sleazy campaign people!

Asked for a response tonight through email, Howard Wolfson, a top aide to Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, wrote, “Urgent indeed — a picture — oooooooo!”
