Yep, if another candidate hits the 2024 number of delegates needed to win the Democratic Nomination, then I agree. She should drop out. Until, then, I guess she has a right to run for President. She actually has a lot of supporters out there, believe it or not. And, my my my. She is actually leading both BO and McBush in some polls.

What do you know. Some people actually have and would vote for her.

Amazing, huh?

23. Like Bill Richardson?
Er sorry, never mind.

I thought Hillary supporters were saying that it's too late for major endorsements, that anyone endorsing a candidate at this stage was simply looking for a VP slot or cabinet position?

6. She will be forced out after PA even if she wins there.
Edited on Fri Mar-21-08 09:15 PM by Quixote1818
The national dialog will change to "Hillary can't win". At that point, party leaders will start calling for her to end this.

8. 2025.
2024 + 2024=4048, There are 4049 pledged delegates, not 4048.

AS soon as Hillary was prevented from getting 2025, why didnt she drop out? Knowing she could not win the pledged delegate count, why has she stayed in the race ?

11. If she quits before she's beat, she won't be playing by the rules.
The rules say one candidate has to have 2025 delegate votes. Until that happens, neither should quit.

12. Its her right to run.
That doesnt mean its her right to run the whole party into the crapper. Mathematicly she is toast. What she is doing now is what Nader is doing. She isnt helping the progressive cause. Even her good friend Gov. Richardson saw this. She needs to take one for the team.

15. Yep, the problem is that the Obama fans somehow can't understand
that millions of her supporters do not want her to drop out.

The poor things think that this is a coronation and not an election. I hope she stays all the way through the Puerto Rico primary. If the Obama people and and the party doesn't like it, then it's just too bad.

20. "millions of her supporters do not want her to drop out"
Well hell, if that's the only thing needed, then we need to get the other six candidates who've dropped out against their supporters' wishes back in the game, stat!

17. Pelosi Number 1627
1627 is equal to 50% of the elected delegates.

Speaker Pelosi has said that if someone gets 50% of the pledged delegates 3253 they should be considered the nominee.

Presumably Speaker Pelosi and the other Super delegates that agree with her will endorse the candidate that gets 1627 by then.

Obama currently has 1406 and therefore needs 221 pledged delegates to get the Pelosi number.

Given the most favorable possible break for Clinton I estimate that Obama will reach the Pelosi Number on May 20th in Oregon.

18. Did anyone catch AC360 last night when he said they called Hillary but she didn't return it?
To have her fair share of time on the show, why do you think she doesn't want to take advantage of that?

22. If she can not get to 2024 herself she should drop out even if
she can slow her opponent from reaching 2024 for some time still. The primary beneficiary of the Democratic primary stretching out for months more is John McCain, as such, it raises some difficult questions.

The "super delegate" math still indicates that Hillary can get to 2024, but it also indicates that it is extraordinarily unlikely. I understand the difficult position that puts Hillary supporters in. They want to win, and all possibilities of victory haven't been closed to them, regardless of how unlikely those possibilities are. How that desire to win measures up to the desire to have a healthy Democratic Party that isn't squandering it's money on in-fighting, isn't trying to build negatives for other Democrats, and is taking the fight to John McCain and the Republicans is a matter of individual perspective.

Personally, I think the odds of Hillary reaching 2024 have become so slim that it's not a matter of her "taking one for the team" any more, it's a matter of recognizing that she can only damage us going forward.

24. Bingo. Just like Edwards and Huckabee did.
Seriously, it is a close race, but at some point even Clinton herself must ask herself whether a fight she can't win is worth pursuing. There are ways for her to win, but these are mostly theoretical.

I'm not demanding she drop out now, but I think she is going to waste a lot of money, along with the labor and hopes of a lot of volunteers. After a few more primaries, why not drop out if the necessary miracle appears out of reach?
