Poll question: Clinton's "Kitchen Sink" strategy has hobbled both Candidates. Party now forced to SELECT THE TICKET
Edited on Sat Mar-22-08 04:54 PM by Sensitivity

Hillary and Barack are both damaged goods.

Whether we like it or not, Hillary's effective negative campaign going into Texas/Ohio has hobbled Obama for a fight against the "Patriotic," "Credible," "Ready from day one" Commander In Chief, John McCain. This Clinton strategy has also had the side effect of decreasing Hillary's chances in the GE. Either will need heavy-duty help in the GE.

The "guilt by association" Wright-gate smear against Obama makes it almost impossible for him to put away Clinton with a PA upset victory.

So, at the end of the primaries neither Obama nor Clinton will be able to claim an undisputed right to the nomination as a result of primary ELECTION. The Party (superdelegates) will have to consider whether either is still on a position to lead to a big GE victory, or whether to SELECT the best combination of candidates to field against McCain.

This is not, necessarily, a bad thing. We have the advantage of knowing who the opposition is -- John McCain. The party can have a major role in crafting the ticket needed to win, rather be stuck with the results of an unsatisfactory primary process. Logic would favor that the head of the ticket, other than the two leaders this time, should have won a prior nomination processes.

The rumor is that Party leaders are seriously considering packaging a GORE/OBAMA ticket. This is not far-fetched. Earlier it was expected that if Clinton faltered, Gore would enter the race. He was just loath to go up against the Clinton machine and the mood of the country that it was time for a "woman." Gore has already been V.P. so he would only consider heading the ticket.

So, what ticket would you choose to go against McCain? Here are some options in the wind:

14. My choice as well.
I'd love to see a woman on the ticket, but I don't think the US is ready for Barbara Lee yet, and the conservatives' heads really would explode (hey, I'm from Berkeley originally: we pioneered Progressive).

Obama/Richardson would work well for me, as would Obama/Edwards.

And I think Clinton would make a great AG or head of HHS, so there.

21. I think Clinton would make a good USSC justice, personally.
Or possibly Majority Leader, if she stays in the Senate.

I see John Edwards as being a better pick for AG in a hypothetical Obama administration.

16. Does anybody here who is even remotely grounded in some kind of reality
really believe that Gore would run in any capacity when he said he would not, when he has had nothing at all to do with the campaign? Does anybody really believe that Edwards would again run as VP when he said he would not and with his wife's health in the condition that it is in? Does anybody really believe that Kerry would ever agree to run as VP? What on earth does Kerry bring to any Democratic ticket?

This DU is really great because evidently it has given me access to a parallel dimension where all the rules of logic and reality are contrary to those of this one.

Edited on Sat Mar-22-08 05:51 PM by blm
talks about it in his book when he used to be human not so many years ago.

McCain admitted that he was always on the verge of complete breakdown during the whole Vietnam normalization process he and Kerry were charged with and he revealed that it never would have happened without KERRY'S leadership and his ability to calm him down when he was visibly shaken and falling apart.

Now - imagine THAT AUDIO from the Book on TAPE version with McCain's own voice telling THAT story.

You all underestimate Kerry constantly as you buy into what bullshit the media has slung at you, instead of having the guts to fight FOR the truth alongside our best Dems. That's the reality of what happened to both Gore and Kerry.

30. "This is not far-fetched." It ceratinly isn't, if one looks at this historically
and- depending on what happens- pragmatically.

Nominees were almost never decided on the first ballot. Even FDR took 3 -and that was FDR!

Had RFK not been killed, anyone hazard a guess as to how Chicago would have gone in 1968?

Would we still have gotten Nixon (and lost the Supreme Court).

Obama did all the work, yet he should be the Veep to Al Gore?
Have you lost your mind or are you just being ignorant.....:puke:
Your premise is completely off and its shit like this that
gets us into deeper shit in the first place.....hence the
Clinton's feels they can do as they like without anyone
telling them when to quit.

She is the one that has destroyed the party and in part Gore
was responsible for creating the DLC that has now become a
thorn in the Democratic flesh, frankly, I don't think Al
Gore wants to get into politics again.

You need to change your flawed thinking, I guess you're
from the golden age, so its understandable for the
thinking to be a wee bit off.

I disagree with your GORE/Obama ticket, why not OBAMA/Gore
we need a progressive ticket, thats the only way we can get
things done.

I know there is a name out there that most of us have not
heard of.

47. Gore has 8 years of VP experience, 8 years as a representative,
8 years as a senator, technically won the presidential election in 2000, Nobel Peace Prize winner, etc. etc. Do you honestly think he would or should accept a VP slot to a freshman senator? That's ludicrous.

I don't know where you are getting these ideas. Obama is going to go into the convention the clear winner. And the idea that he is too "damaged" to win the GE is nonsense. We haven't even begun to fight McCain. Once we do, he will out of the fight in nothing flat. All this fantastical speculation is a waste of energy.

It seems like ages ago now that I was supporting an Obama/Clinton unity ticket... but that was before the happenings of the past week or two. That stuff really took any desire for a "unity" ticket right out of me. Obama/Richardson makes me smile AND Richardson has the advantages of being very experienced AND well liked. I'd say he'd be nuts not to go for it.

I know that last one isn't popular given Clark's support of Clinton, but I haven't heard him piling on since the 'Kitchen Sink Strategy' came along, so he's still viable in my mind. It would also help heal some of the hurt from Clinton supporters, and that's a good thing going into the GE.
