of course the NY Times is, as always, hard at work playing the word connotations game. Let's take a look at how they play the game:

Some words and phrases from the article:

in the headline: "Past Defeat"

From the first paragraph: "His city was in financial default — the embarrassment of the nation. His political career was in tatters, his bank account dangerously low. Not even the radio talk shows would hire him."

No mention of course of the eventual $100 million his actions actually saved Cleveland residents.

Of course, the article is careful not to mention Dennis's biggest attraction to many supporters: he is someone who has a history of fighting corporations, instead of kowtowing to them. That idea just finds too much resonance with the voters these days.....

It does mention the Muny Light thing later in the article. I don't know why these articles all have to beat the hell out of a candidate for the first 6 paragraphs before they ever say anything positive. It's very annoying.

13. true, true...in the end, it may come down to simply the amount of exposure

as long as the images are not too ominous. It seems to be hard to cause a candidate's poll numbers to go down using JUST words. You need dark imagery and photos. TV does that really well.

Anyone else think this is one big reason for why DK is so low in the polls?

I am a DK supporter and volunteer (I even met him a few weeks ago), but I have to say that his judgment in delegating authority with respect to his campaign looks none too good, if this campaign manager/His campaign manager/transformational kinesiologist is any guide to go by.

Why can't we have someone who really wants to stand up for the little guy, as Kucinich obviously does, and at the same time, is willing to use more conventional -- and effective -- methods to get into a position to do something about it?

With the kind of real honest-to-goodness liberal credentials DK most obviously has, you would think that there would be ALL KINDS of experienced political people willing to do this job.

16. The author spends the first half of the article mocking Kucinich

and establishing him as a nut, then proceeds to suggest that "others" are doing the mocking...and for the very things the author chose to mock him for.
