I have suffered from sleep deprivation at different times in my life but I don't think it led me to alter reality. There are medications out there that can help her get though this.
What is insomnia, exactly?
Some people think that it only means not sleeping for days on end. But that’s not entirely true. Insomnia simply means you have trouble sleeping. Whether it’s trouble falling asleep, trouble staying asleep, waking up earlier than you want to, or not feeling refreshed when you do wake up—just having one of these symptoms is enough to say that you have insomnia.
A disruption to the sleep-wake cycle
Is insomnia just in my head?
Well, that’s one way to explain it. But insomnia isn’t your fault. Our bodies are naturally programmed to feel sleepy at night and alert during the day. This is known as the sleep-wake cycle, and many things can disrupt it and cause insomnia. Everyday stress, illness, and jet lag can be factors. Our "expert" can explain this in greater detail.
Insomnia affects more than sleep
What happens when I don’t get enough sleep?
Insomnia can affect your concentration, coordination, mood, and health. And that can be hard on you and the people around you. By comparison, people who sleep well miss fewer days of work, are less prone to accidents, and visit the doctor less often.
If insomnia is left untreated, it can turn into a long-term problem.
