34. Don't be so sure...
alot of very intelligent people feel Wright was over the top in much of what he said. My PhD husband said "some things are just not OK to say... in or out of context." In fact, a lot of us are scratching our heads trying to figure out how Obama could sit and listen to Wright again and again.

This is exactly what I've heard on the street in OH and PA: "I would have walked out and never come back." Hillary is only confirming the view that something is wrong with this picture. The issue is NOT behind Mr. Obama. And if you think it is, you are the one who is fooling yourself.

37. Except she's only NOW commenting on it -- to change the subject
It looks kind of "calculating" that she hasn't commented on this for
the past two weeks, and now "suddenly" -- when her "misspeaking" about
her Bosnia trip (and WHAT ELSE?) has become the topic du jour -- she
feels compelled to speak out about this.

Reinforces her image as a calculating politician, trying to bring back
from the dead (!) a story that had just about run its course.

Ron Paul, who is a nut. A genuine nut. I seriously don't think he lies or manipulates though. Or I haven't seen it, anyway.

I don't think many people are for continuing that line of attack anymore, aside from freepers who won't vote Democratic anyways. If she's going to continue shooting her mouth off on the Wright thing, it is likely to come back to bite her in the ass...

9. ABC evening news showing TuzlaGate.
They suggest that her prior claims of experience will now draw severe scrutiny from the media. Jake Tapper on now, saying that within political circles, the jury is still out but that she claims "experience" as her biggest strength, where her biggest weakness is her "trustworthiness."

He suggests TuzlaGate could turn into an instance of her biggest weakness completely undercutting her biggest strength. Goes on to mention "The Tonya Harding Option" as Clinton's only chance at saving her candidacy.

WOW.

Hillary Amplifies Criticism Of Obama Over Wright
By Greg Sargent - March 25, 2008, 4:02PM

At the presser today, Hillary answers multiple questions about Wright, reiterating -- and amplifying -- her suggestion that Obama should have left Wright's church...

A couple quick things. Note how tightly Hillary stuck to the line, "I was asked what I would do," a rhetorical device designed to maintain that this isn't really a negative attack on Obama. Indeed, at one point, she made this explicit, saying:

"When asked a direct question, I gave a direct answer. And I feel very comfortable with that. I don't think that's negative. That's what I would have done."

Also, note that Hillary appears to be reading much of her material on the Wright questions, suggesting that real care went into working out precisely how she'd deal with the issue.

Late Update: Obama spokesperson Bill Burton responds:

“After originally refusing to play politics with this issue, it’s disappointing to see Hillary Clinton’s campaign sink to this low in a transparent effort to distract attention away from the story she made up about dodging sniper fire in Bosnia. The truth is, Barack Obama has already spoken out against his pastor’s offensive comments and addressed the issue of race in America with a deeply personal and uncommonly honest speech. The American people deserve better than tired political games that do nothing to solve the larger challenges facing this country."

18. 'If it was MY pastor, I'd leave the church'.
Basically 'you can't choose your relatives, but you can choose your friends'.

Uncalled for and ill advised, I think.
I'd have said 'It would be totally inappropriate for me to comment on someone else's personal relationships.'
She would have been applauded.

There were any number of CLASSY approaches she could have taken, but instead, she chose the low rent road.

What a (insert gender and racial neutral derogatory epithet here). Simply put her response was less than stellar. We need people who don't throw hissy fits and refuse to talk with people who we may disagree with on occasion.

It is that old ostracism vs. engage with people that has got us into such circumstances and it underscores her mindset being of the former rather than the latter.

26. How convenient....
When the Clintons needed REv. Wright's 'righteousness'
after the MOnica scandal, he sure was good enough to
come to the prayer breakfast, and break bread with them.

but now, she throws him under the proverbial bus.

If she wanted to be magnanimous,
if she wanted to be presidential,
she would have come out when the 'pastorgate'
first erupted, told the press she knew him personally,
and they were taking his remarks out of context.

Your slip is showing Hillary.
What are you made of?

even fox news said it was her trying to distract from the bosnia story. charles krauthhammer (whatever) said he didn't understand why they weren't pushing it last week, because the media wasnt going to sustain the story because they are "still in the tank for Obama." He said that was a mistake and they probably won't make a big story about the Wright thing even now beyond today and maybe tomorrow. He said that if they wanted to push it they should have pushed it last week.
