Jackson Lee at odds with her constituents
...And never more was that more apparent than when longtime Houston Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee took the stage.

A majority of the crowd showed its support for Barack Obama by shouting his name and booing the congresswoman, letting her know what they thought of her allegiance to Hillary Clinton.

(snip)

"For her to standout against the wishes of her district and be a Clinton supporter, I guess pissed off our delegation,” said Obama supporter Phillip.

(snip)

“Her district (went) 90-percent to 10-percent for Obama.”

http://www.kvue.com/news/state/stories/032908kvuejacksonlee-mm.1257cd6a.html

So, is Ed Rendell going to chastise her like he did Richardson, Kennedy and Kerry for 'voting against her constituents?'

Shouldn't this make Ms. Jackson Lee a tad nervous about
her own political future? I've always liked her, although I disagree with her choice of presidential candidates, and would hate to see her voted out of office.

3. I doubt she'll pay a political prize and unlike the legions of mindless hillbots
I support each and every prominent endorser's right to endorse the candidate of their choice. Mindless, vituperative hillbots have been far more eager to savage people like Kennedy, Kerry, Caroline Schlossberg, Pat Leahy and even Bill McKibben, than Obama supporters regarding their counterparts who have supported Hillary.

6. Then you don't qualify.
(emphasis on mindless)

But I do think this might have a backlash effect. People are passionate, and not likely to forget. The margins cited above are no small potatoes.

She hasn't cast any more votes for President this year than her constituents. What is she doing that is so wrong?

Sorry if the mindless part slammed you. Most of Obama's supporters don't qualify for the above description. Some, unfortunately, do.

not at all. I'm merely making light of a "mindless" observation.

Some unfortunately take things way, way too serious around here, when it comes to the gotcha mode.

I hope you have a great day :)

Thanks :) So far I am, I know we will have a Dem in the Whitehouse.

9. Behold!
When I started using that phrase, back in early-mid February, it was always in quotes, always used to point out Obama supporters' ridiculous habit of taking some of the worst tactics and aspects of the Obama campaign and projecting them onto HC, and their inability to craft an original, logical thought against valid criticisms.

Thanks for proving my point.

"Why Is Hillary Clinton Lying?
by Robert Parry
March 26, 2008—Two weeks ago, I wrote a story that observed a disturbing trend in Hillary Clinton’s campaign – her growing tendency to stretch the truth, twist what her chief rival was saying and then rely on her supporters to go on the offensive against you if you spoke up."

18. LOL ~ let's just agree that both groups
have brilliant minds. The MSM statistics say that Obama supporters are near the top of the IQ scale. Those aren't my numbers, those are the numbers from Matthews and the boys.

Let's leave the name calling to the Republicans.

That's who we have to worry about in November.

As far as Sheila Jackson Lee is concerned, she has every right to support who she believes is the best person in the Race.

The people that voted her in, on the other hand, have the right to support someone who responds to their needs.

As much as I love Sheila Jackson Lee, in a democracy, the voters that put you in Congress can take you out of Congress.

She has a right to support Clinton, and Lee is great on the issues. She'd never lose her district over this. She'll endorse Obama as soon as he's the nominee. :)

17. so did my rep., Stephanie Tubbs-Jones...
...and no one's said a word about that.

My guess is that every member of the Congressional Black Caucus who has supported Hillary is going through the same thing. Not a topic of discussion so far, only Kennedy and Kerry. However, there's zero, and I mean zero, chance that Stephanie will suffer for that in the future, and I doubt, conversely, if Kennedy or Kerry suffer in any way for it, either. Don't know about Jackson-Lee, though, not familiar with her constituents.

35. yes, she is very popular.
Edited on Sun Mar-30-08 08:22 PM by CitizenLeft
I voted for her in the primary on 3/4 - she ran unopposed, and no Republican will have a snowball's chance in hell of beating her, if one decides to take her on in Nov. So she's pretty safe going against her constituents, but I can see why they'd be pissed. Taken for granted once again.

Thanks for trying!

23. She came out for Clinton back in May 2007.
In fact, a number of women (and even men) in the Congressional Black Caucus did so - essentially before the Obama phenomena hit. Now they are essentially trapped, and for black women, torn between 2 constituencies. I don't think anyone thought that Obama would be in this position today. Ironically, others chose to wait it out to see how it went, although back then and all the way up to Super Tuesday, Clinton had been assumed the front-runner by all the media and I expect the Dem. Party itself. At least as of January, the CBC had pretty much split its endorsements between the 2, with a couple who had supported Edwards.

But now that the landscape has changed, there is definitely a "lessons learned" exercise needed. There will definitely be fences to mend.

24. i feel sorry for her. obviously, she was promised something good,
i watched her on 'state of the black union' and she was having a real hard time explaining herself. reminded my of randi's favorite- the truth takes 2 seconds. if you are taking 5 minutes, you are lying. asked about her support for hill, she rambled on and on- web dubois, and oh, go to ghana, and see the dubois center, and then when martin said....... on and on. sad, just plain sad.
i give her the props, though, she went out there and took one for the campaign.

25. I was there when she spoke at SD 15.
The boos were thunderous. She then chided everyone and told them how she knew what was best for them. Then they really got mad. I don't think anyone serious will ever run against her, however.

Most dangerous place in Houston -- that patch of land between Sheila and a newscamera

We had a lot of good speakers yesterday, and they all said that supporting whomever is the dem nominee is most important.

Lots of clapping for Jim Wright when he came up.

He was a little hard to understand. But he was powerful. I'm glad I was there to hear it.

Rep. Lon Burnam was there too, very fired up for dems! He was walking around all stickered for other candidates and carrying around a Rick Noriega sign. He was really awesome. I wish he was my rep.

People don't like to be lectured to like they are in Kindergarten. She has the right to support whomever she wants. Them's the rules, but she doesn't have to be snotty about it and then expect a round of applause. :eyes:
