I'm in Ohio and was polled today
Edited on Mon May-31-04 11:21 PM by doc03
And you know how painful that can be. Sorry, had to do it.
Here is a condensed version of the questions and my response.

Will you vote Nov.2 2004?----------------------------------yes
Are you a registered Republican?----------------------------no
Are you a registered Democrat?-----------------------------yes
Will you vote for Bush*?------------------------------------no
Will you vote for Kerry?-----------------------------------yes
Do you think your taxes should remain about the same or be
reduced?---------------------------------------------------yes
Do you think marriage should be only between a man and
a woman?----------------------------------------------------no
Do you support the war in Iraq?-----------------------------no
Do you consider yourself pro-life---------------------------no
Do you attend church at least once per week?----------------no

The questions seemed to be skewed to make you give a conservative response. I was just wondering if anyone else had received this call.
Edit: this was a computer generated poll geared for a yes or no answer only. Don't remember the name of the polling organization.

2. The abortion question seemed especially skewed, no? (n/t)
Edited on Mon May-31-04 11:00 PM by jadedcherub
On Edit:

You should have answered immediately, "No, I'm afraid I'm pro-death & destruction."

5. This was a computer generated call
The questions were asked in a way to give you a yes or no answer only.

3. It certainly is
About the tax the choice should have been: a) same b) reduced c) increase on those making more than $200K

If you were asked whether you were pro-life the next question should have been whether you were pro-choice

About church, again, should have given choices; a) once a week b) once a month c) a couple of times a year d) never and, of course e) am not a Christian, attend the house of worship of my faith

4. How about on the pro-life question:
"If you're referreing to prisoners who quite possibly have been place on death row by mistake, then yes, I'm pro-life!!

6. You should have answered yes
to the pro-life question. Presumably you're opposed to the killing of already born humans, yes? I suppose, from your answer, you favor a woman's right to choose when it comes to abortion, but they didn't ask you that.

But it shows the absurdity of those kinds of forced choices.

Every so often I have to stop participating in some kind of survey precisely because they won't give me a choice I can actually answer on some question.

7. silent art auction in cleveland
I didn't know where to put this post, because I just registered, so I thought I'd stick it in the OHIO post area. First let me say that the Plain Dealer is LYING. We should have an investigation. All the real pollsters show Kerry way ahead here in OHIO.

Second,
If you are able to help in any way, I am trying to get the word out that there is an art auction (silent auction) this Saturday at Joseph Beth in Shaker Square 6PM. Our website is www.kerryauction.com. If you know any democrats, Kerry supporters, and art enthusiasts, could you email them the information? Hopefully the DNC and Cuyahoga dems will email the info, but I'm now posting on various forums to get the word out.

Perhaps you too could post this info on some other forums you are a part of?

Third, if you want to you can donate a plate of cookies or a strudel to serve at the art auction. I've gotten lots of beautiful fine art (ranging from $100-$6000 in value), but can't seem to find people to bring snacks! Strange. I've looked all over town, and I have 3 people plus myself bringing a plate of finger foods, so if you'd like to, you can click on "donate food" at the website address.
...don't do it if you aren't comfortable with the idea...
Last, if you have any good information in the press these days that should be included in my speech, particularly as it relates to arts education and mental health, post it and I will use it!

Thanks so much!!!

13. thanks, guys
thank you so much everyone!!
Since I'm new, and I need this info out, could one of you guys post a new thread with this info - to get the word out around town?

The auction is this Saturday, June 5th at Joseph-Beth bookstore 6PM-9PM, and it's a silent auction. Most of the art has been donated by highly acclaimed well-known artists, value ranges from $50.00-$6000.00, but mean value is $200.00. We have a website www.kerryauction.com.
If you'd like to help out but can't come to the auction, you can buy some cookies at Lucy's sweet surrender in cleveland - there's a link to the bakery on the website. And, estimated prophet here in this cyber community is a personal friend of mine, and he can vouch for my credibility and upstandingnessitude.

Thank you all so much

I love this site!

warm regards,
Beth

10. That tax question...that one's a bastard.
To me, the tax question isn't one of up or down, it's one of allocation. I want some taxes to go up and some to go down. All taxes on earned income should go down, for almost everyone. But I want taxes to go up on unearned income to go up for most people. I want property taxes to go down for most individuals, but I want property taxes to go up for most corporations. I want almost every single fee and sales tax to go down on individuals (unless it's for an item, the consumption of which creates huge social costs, like gambling, alcohol, and gas).
