what Kerry said about the type of vp he wants

actually, it's more about his opinion of how he wants the president/vice president relationship and roles to be.he said the clinton/gore president/vice president relationship was the best example of a pres/vp relationship that he wanted.

he said the president should be the one in charge, the decision maker, the one with most responsibility. he said that in the current administration bush is not doing the job of president and that it's cheney who is the one making the decisions and is in control.

but he also doesn't want the bush/quayle type thing where the vp can't do anything and doesn't know anything. he wants the president to be in charge, but he also wants a vp who can be partner in many things and knows things. someone he can trust to do a good job when he asks them to do something.

1. I'm of the opinion that for a VP...

...if I were to choose, I'd want an "idea man" who could also serve as a bulldog. But I'd want to choose him, I wouldn't want the guy on my VP selection committee to end up convincing me he was the obvious choice. One would have to be a real moron to fall for something like that. I mean, you want those serving in advisory capacity to be able to get the correct information to you, without pushing their own agendas. Especially since you are likely to select advisors and cabinet members from various high profile positions. And if you allow them to push their own agenda, they will. Bush's advisor and cabinet selection is a whose-who of "conflict of interest". It's like a prerequisite to serve.

I think I've pretty much given up on the concept of a President or titular "head of state". It's just begging for problems. Roll back the Presidents power to a Constitutional level. The President should be a figurehead, our "chief ambassador", not King.

But we so do love Celebrity...

Reagan was a bad actor. There are other bad actors waiting in the wings. Think: George HW Bush was to Reagan as Dick Cheney is to George W Bush. Hand up the arse of the figurehead.

I don't know who Kerry is going to pick. It would be hard to imagine any scenario in which I'd not be mildly dissappointed, but it doesn't matter. Kerry will be a better, and safer, President than Bush. (i hope)

A VP should have the qualifications to be the Pres. I feel that Wes Clark fits that and would be great VP.

Well, you may not be excited about him or agree with him, but if you are looking at the ABC News definition, then I think Gephardt would meet those qualifications. I don't favor Gephardt, but I think he would meet the guidelines set out by Kerry.
