Poll Shows Kerry With Solid Lead Nationwide
"Widespread unease over the country's direction and doubts about President Bush's policies on Iraq and the economy helped propel Sen. F. John Kerry to a solid lead among voters nationwide," according to a Los Angeles Times Poll to be released Thursday.

Kerry leads Bush 51% to 44% in a two-way match up, and by 48% to 42% with independent Ralph Nader included in the choice.

"Lifting Kerry is a powerful tailwind of dissatisfaction with the nation's course and Bush's answers for challenges at home and abroad. Nearly three-fifths believe the nation is on the wrong track, the highest level a Times poll has recorded during Bush's presidency."

2. Like Gore, Kerry could win popular vote but lose electoral vote.

This poll shows Kerry wins the popular vote by a larger margin than Gore but may lose key swing states like OH, WI, and MO, which could cost him the electoral college.

4. I think we all know that Bush is toast.

People are just tired of that BS. And the passing of Reagan reminds even Bush-supporters how un-Presidential Bush really is. Not that I am a fan of Reagan, but a lot more people (even Democrats) liked him as a person. You can't say that about Bush.

That's not good news.

His approval rating is more important than the horse race poll, and it should be under 50% for Kerry to have a chance.

No incumbent with an approval rating of 50 percent should be trailing any challenger, particularly one who's still a bit of an unknown quantity.

BTW, he's under 50 percent approval in every other recent poll, where he's at 43-49 percent.

Also, the right track-wrong track numbers are bad for Bush, and that's an excellent barometer.
