I complimented a lady today whose SUV displayed
a Kerry for President bumper sticker. She then told me that her lifelong repubican husband was about ready to make the switch. Kewl!

Just wanted to share that special moment with you. It put a spring in my step for the rest of the day. Well, at least until I saw another bumper sticker on the back of an Amish buggy. The sticker said, "Nuke the whales". Oh well.

2. yeah but from the Amish "Nuke the Whales" is a joke
isn't it?

I have a Kerry sticker on my SUV and get lots of nice comments at the gas station here in Phoenix

Which brings me to one of my favorite rants-- Put a Kerry sticker on your car, you will make someone's day, I guarantee it.

and if you're like me and hate bumper stickers, put it on the glass for easy (non paint damaging) removal in November :-)

5. I put my Kerry bumper sticker on with a magnet
which happens to be red so it blends in with the background in the middle of the sticker. (I really dislike bumper stickers normally, but obviously these are desperate times..).

Also, wanted to mention that I complimented a guy who had the Thomas Jefferson quote ("Those that would sacrifice freedom for security deserve neither..." (paraphrased)) on the back of his car. But something about his demeanor made me question whether he was a "DU'er" type... I did a google on the quote and it appears to have been embraced by the gun lobby... bummed me out...

7. Absolutely a great quote...
I think I'm just going to check to see if the car has a gun rack before making any complimentary comments in future though...

9. That is a Ben Franklin quote - not Jefferson. Actual quote here:

BENJAMIN FRANKLIN

They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security

11. I think a variation of it has been attributed to both...
Franklin and Jefferson.

12. Glad you didn't make a remark to her about having SUV.
Since SUVs are supposedly gas guzzling environmental-eating, unsafe for others, vehicles. That would likely have turned her off to the Kerry camp (esp. since Kerry has an SUV himself....errr, his family does, I mean).

Yes, I'm voting for Kerry...and with enthusiasm. But I couldn't resist!

14. Nuke the Whales?
Edited on Fri Jun-11-04 06:23 PM by OnionPatch
Maybe I'm slow, but I don't understand that exactly, especially in the context of it being on an Amish buggy. Someone please enlighten me?

I have had a Kerry sticker on my SUV since it was obvious he was the nominee. I just wanted to mention that some people actually need to drive SUVs. Our roads aren't salted out here and you are actually required to have 4x4 or use chains when it snows. (Have you ever put chains on your car in the middle of a snowstorm? On the way to work, no less?) My husband drives a pickup also, because we live on a farm and need it! His has a great big peace sign in the back window. Don't stereotype truck/SUV owners. Some of us need them. And I would argue that we're not all to blame....why have the car makers not given us the products we need and want? Mainly, functional 4x4 vehicles that gets GOOD gas mileage? When they come out with that, (and it's relatively affordable) we'll be one of the first in line to buy one.

15. I read a while back, here on DU I think, that Subaru 4X4's...
were actually better in the snow than SUV's. Can't vouch for the veracity of the statement but you may want to check it out next time you're in the market for a vehicle.
