We Clark supporters are a pretty loyal bunch. Excepting the first week or two after his withdrawal, I've seen pretty solid support for Kerry, regardless of who he chooses as VP.

First and foremost, we want to win in November. Just because our guy isn't the nominee doesn't change that one iota.

I can't vote for incompetance and I think Edwards would be just horrible in that role. He should have stayed in the Senate and learned something about the world outside of the United States.

Maybe if my back is hurting I won't be able to go to the polls, which would get me off the hook...

It's bigger than Edwards, it's about Kerry's judgment and desire to do something that isn't pushed on him by party bigwigs. He said his VP would have to have foreign policy experience. If he caves on that, then I question his ability to stand tough on a lot of things.

If he introduced Clark as the next Sec. of State, sort of put a team out there, I could understand it. But if not, then I really think Kerry could lose it, because over the summer/fall there are so many things that Bush can manipulate to his advantage....Saddam, Osama, alerts/fear...all the things that Clark could debunk clearly.

My biggest problem is what goes on after the Convention with the money situation and without a really clear voice. Right now Clark goes on TV alot, but I would almost bet that he would be shut out by the media if he weren't named VP. And we'd lose that strong voice.........

I might do it as a Nader Trader, which is always a little iffy.

I think the only issue for the vast majority of Clark supporters is how hard they'd work for a Kerry with Edwards as his running mate. Real hard to get enthused about the possibility. But I also think that, in the final analysis, most of us would do what we can, just not with the same emotional commitment.

question I always get peppered with when I say I won't vote for Kerry/Edwards and that is "don't you know what's at stake?'
Well, of course I do.
But I simply cannot get behind a ticket I neither trust nor like.
Kerry's fine. He's got experience and a world vision. I may not think he's the most exciting thing, but I can live just fine with experience and world vision.
What I would have a hard time with is voting for the other half of that ticket - someone who is spun so hard that no one knows who he really is. I only yesterday found out from a friend in Raleigh that, up until he ran for Senate, he rarely voted if he voted at all. I just don't consider him a beacon of public service and I have a real, big problem with that.

As a fellow Clark supporter, I respect your dedication, but how can you look at Bush vs Edwards and feel any sort of conflict as to which one should occupy the White House?

I'm not fond of Edwards - I was in the beginning, and I grow less enchanted as the days go by, but Jeebus Pete, I'm not going to sit on my arse while the GOP puts me through another four years of their version of the corporate-american dream.

The extent of his misjudgement on Iraq staggers me, and I find nothing in him to offset that impression.

Everyone complained when the Democrats made their political compromise on the war resolution -- now you ask the voters to make the same mistake as the Congress. I'll give him a chance to tapdance out of it, but one of his supporters informed me that it was really a great sign strength that Edwards stood by his war vote.

Bottom line: my vote will not validate this war. Period.

believe me, I do.
But - maybe it was my upbringing or just being a stubborn Capricorn - I just cannot vote for someone I abhor even if he's just a slight touch better than a person I abhor more.

The good news for me is that ABC is reporting that Kerry's looking for FP experience in his choice: Nunn, Clark, Biden, etc. I could vote for ANY of those combinations without a second flicker of regret!! :)

37. Yeah, that's just the point

Kerry has said all along that the ability to serve immediately, with strong foreign policy credentials, is his FIRST priority.

Ill admit, I was sceptical at first. I thought, yeah sure... he's a politician, he'll do whatever he thinks he needs to to get elected. But slowly, between what Kerry has said, and what others have said for him (Kennedy for example), and the fact that he has had Clark speaking for him repeatedly, I have come to really believe he means what he said. I respect that tremendously.

And I really really want to respect Kerry. He's our only hope for November, and really for the eight years after that. I want him to be everything he can be.

But if he picks Edwards, I'll know he (Kerry) is a fake. My worst doubts will be confirmed. So it will be VERY hard for me to vote for Kerry with Edwards on the ticket, and VERY easy to rationalize that it won't matter in my state. Possibly anywhere.

And yet, I know Kerry on his worst day is many times better than Bush on his best, even if he were to betray my trust that he will live up to what he's promised. So yeah, I'll hold my nose and vote for him, if come Nov 2nd I think it makes a difference. But I can certainly understand those who won't.

Thankfully, I gotta believe it's not gonna come to that.

If Kerry picks Edwards, it will trouble me a great deal about Kerry s judgement on his first important decision.

It will tell me he prefers style over substance.

It will also mean he lied, when he said his Veep would be ready to be Prez immediately, in an emergency.

So I have not decided; Hawaii is safe for Kerry...there is nothing Bush can do to win this state. Therefore, I just may not vote, or do a write-in. If I lived in a swing state, I probably would hold my nose & vote Kerry/Edwards.

Saw him in NH, the only thing that holds me back with JRE is lack of FP experience, and I think that is critical with what Dickweed stirred up overseas. We have to be prepared for anything now, because we've done such a fine job winning those hearts and minds.

I'd be extremely reluctant to vote for a Kerry/Edwards ticket, even though I would simply end up voting for it because of my unyielding desire to prevent another 4 more years for Bush. But honestly, Edwards is a bit too conservative-in-disguise-ish for me.
