This election will be decided by Iraqis and Al-Queda. Not Americans.
In effect, Al-Queda has already won. They have very effectively divided this country against itself. In order to assure their victory all that they will have to do is launch another attack, even a "minor" one in the U.S., and the voters will lose all perspective and vote for revenge and the Yellow-Stain-of-Texas.

OTOH if the Iraqis continue to resist, and AQ doesn't launch an attack here, Kerry will probably win.

Think about it.

1. or will another attack make folks thing Bush has failed to
protect us? the Dems can prove he didn't beef up Homeland Security because all the $$$ went for an illegal war overseas

I'm still not sure which way it would go if (Heaven forbid) we get another attack in the next few months

2. I'm sure
There's no doubt in my mind that if al Qaeda suceeds in attacking the US, the voters will rally around the Commander-in-Chief. The closer to the election, the more so.

Repubs will point to Spain and say, "See? The terrorists are trying to determine our election too!" Of course, they'll be right--except al Qaeda will be trying to get Bush re-elected. Recruitment has never been so good, and bin Laden and his boys are VERY patient in achieving their long term goals.

Rove and Co know all this, and I suspect we will have an attack, or the appearance of an attack that our "great wartime president" deftly averts.

It scares the bejeezus outta me.
