Saturday the New Mexico Congressional District conventions will be held in Taos NM. I am trying to decide whether or not to go. They will be choosing delegates to the National convention. I think there are lots of people going. I think the turnout has been beyond expectations and has surpassed prior turnouts. I know they have plenty of people to stand in as alternates if we aren't there.
I am not sure about "running" to be a delegate to Nationals. This is my first go round in New Mexico and I am feeling ill prepared. I have received a few emails from people asking me to support them to be delegates to the National convention and even a post card from someone asking for my support and I don't think she is in my Congressional District. So, then it dawns on me, if I want to be a delegate to Nationals I should have, basically, been campaigning. This is the first time I have been close enough to the location of the National convention to go.
So, now I am beginning to wonder about going at all. They probably have way too many people who want to go and not enough slots. Plus, it is about a five hour drive to Taos from here and we can't leave until after 5 pm Friday so it makes a very short weekend then back to work next week. I am curious if this is the convention where any resolutions will be passed, I don't really understand the process in New Mexico as I have only been here a couple of years. I posted a thread yesterday asking for insight and/or experience from any DUers but didn't get much of a response. I read through the "delegate selection" plan for New Mexico. I understand there are about 17 delegates selected from the 3 Congressional Districts...I think there were about 38 total delegates from New Mexico.
To go to Taos and try to be of service? Or not? Hoping to be a delegate to the National convention but doubting that will actually happen. Besides, I don't have any flyers, or letters, or speeches about why others should support me. I have been a Democrat since 1992 or before. I was an active Dem in College. I participated in the process in Texas. I am eligible to go to Taos but I am also not sure I could become a delegate.
What to do DU?
